The model number should be stamped on the block, just below the #4 exhaust port.
If you've got the hood open, and you're facing the front of the car, it's the exhaust port furthest to your left. The stamp should be about 6-10 inches below the exhaust port.
Another way - the intake manifold, does it say Dual Point Fuel Injection on the top of it? If it does, then you've got a Dx motor. HF & Si's are Multi Point Fuel Injection.

look for the # where they listed above, it will be a 4 or 5 digit code;
the first digit is the series (either B or D in the case of the civics)
the second two digits are engine size (usually 15 for 1.5L or 16 for 1.6L)
the fourth and fifth are the revision, you'll learn these over time by reading posts on this board.
The only exception I know of to this rule is the ZC motor, the stamp simply says ZC.
The ZC is generally a 1.6L DOHC based on the D-series, but there are different revisions of this motor.
yeah- it'll be in the same location as this one, but it'll probably say D15(xx) instead of BEEEEEE TWENNNNY! http://filebox.vt.edu/users/bclifton/pictures/B20B.jpg
