Its been a while since i posted anything new regarding #510. Usually my posts consist of digital pornography in the form of images that feature a decade old hunk of japanese metal dipped in glorious Phoenix Yellow, juxtaposed in bright daylight to a cloudless cobalt blue sky. Its hard not to show off the iconic silhouette of a car that changed the face of sport compact automobile tuning forever. With engineered lines so perfect and balanced from front to rear, only a rear wing airfoil spoiler sculpted into form by the artists at Mugen could complement and finish the surface of wind travel at velocity. This is my car, and i havent even started describing yet the race-born mechanics of what propels it underneath the lightweight bonnet, nor the geometry and symphony of aluminum and steel components that form the framework of structural ingenuity.....
pfff, whatever, at any rate, no pics. sorry, lol. just words today, and for anyone else who cares to share, please chime in.
im taking her in tomorrow to a friend of mine to get all the oem factory oil seals changed, belts swapped, fluids drained and anything else maintenance-wise required of a car already 10 years old. we've only spent 10k miles on the road together since i picked her up from Acura's freshly mopped showroom floor on Novermber 2000. time-wise, its time to finally freshen her up. but something dawned on me last night when i thought about my car...
10 years old. thats a long time since the last brand new itr came to US shores. i feel like we've turned a corner with so many people losing and "rebuilding" an itr now. it never crossed my mind 10 years ago how i would live to read stories of rebuilding when i was living the current dream, the present of being an itr owner. i cant imagine, but why do i feel like in the near future, threads of "I found an ITR in a BARN!!!" will start popping up and igniting the imagination...
just the other day in the fs section, some guy was selling a champ white shell on the east coast parked by what looked to be trees with fall leaves all over the car...fall leaves with extra soot of 6 months with no cover as extra flavor. no engine/interior, just shell. i imagined my own excitement in another decade how the itr will still spark a panic and flurry when some lucky SOB finds out the farm hauler he just picked up for pennies is actually a true-blooded dc2r under 5 layers of backyard special rattle paint. its exciting and yet at the same time, sobering to know that as the car gets older, i too am getting older.
i turn 36 this year. sometimes i feel like im too old to be driving a winged compact with screaming yellow paint, but ***, im the original owner and i was only 25 and horny all the time when i bought the car...is it fair? when im 46, my car will be celebrating her 20th bday. if not for myself anymore, maybe i'll be blessed with a son who will feel the same excitement i was once had for this awesome machine...atleast i'll have him as an excuse to keep the old clunker.

Hey lucky-R do you have any pictures when you took delivery of your py R at the dealership brand new in the show room? That would be real nice if you could share those with us.
don't understand why they are allowed to keep on with their junk.

OP, great write up!
I'll never forget the day or the feeling when I took delivery of my R.

very cool.....i too feel the same way. bought my itr fresh from an acura dealer in 98, only owner...i too feel like im getting too old for it. heheh! when these young bloods see a 6 foot 300 lb. balding filipino man get out of an ITR, they must snicker within their heads. hehehehe! im keeping her forever though, my 3 yr old son likes the car so maybe if the world doesnt end in 2014 like im predicting, he may just have himself an ITR relic! heheheh!
btw, i was only 210 lbs when i got the and had a good head of hair.....hehehe! gotta love that stress n those sushi buffets!

December 8th 2000 was truly a life changing day being that it was the first new car I'd ever owned. I watch 01-0251 being driven home by my wife as I marveled at the R's beauty with every turn it made as I followed. Whats funny is it was almost a week later till I even drove it. lol
I was 34 then and now 45, but I don't see any way we would ever sell this car. Thought about it once about 2 years ago but I'd hate myself for it.
