Hey all. Finally got my CRX back from its sitting place for the winter and decided its about time this car ran. Its a 91 CRX dx with a d15b7 block, d16z6 head, P28 ecu. All brand new parts rewired the car to mpfi and obd1 myself. She ran for a day but not I just can get her to start. Pushed my hand switch and the following CEL codes popped up:

9 CYP - cylinder sensor
10 IAT - intake air temperature sensor
15 Ignition output signal
21 VTEC spool solenoid valve
41 Primary oxygen sensor heater

I have no idea how to even start tackling these. I'm gonna recheck my VTEC wires and the 4 wire O2 sensor that I installed. Would any of these cause the car not to start and where do I begin?!

check your grounds there is one by the t-stat housing make sure there clean and grounded alot of the time mulitpule codes have to do with grounds..

 

the code 15 for the igniter is the only one that will cause it to not start

Is there supposed to be a ground on the thermostat housing? I don't have one but it seems theres one on the vtec solenoid??

I'm going over everything in the engine bay, Couple of questions:


what is this long wire with connections


is this supposed to be on the Tstat housing?


what is this plug up by the TPS sensor


and this is hanging down by the front of the block

and does anyone know where all the grounds are supposed to be located?

one by the tb is for a purge solenoid and the one in the third pic is for the original o2. The cyp cel could be poor wiring. Check my thread mpfi to dpfi without issue. the code 15 is why it wont start. replace the igniter in the distributor or get a new distributor. The Iat sensor is probably not plugged in. it on the intake manifold. its a white sensor. Check a wiring schematic to make sure the plug your using has the corresponding wires for the Iat sensor. Your o2 sensor probably is wired properly. Just take one thing at a time and dont get overwhelmed and you will get this thing solved G/L!!

I can cut off the old O2 wire correct??

I found an AWESOME diagram on rywire of all sensors on the d16z6
So I can plug the final stuff in. After that the CYP is all that stands in my way

 

i just had the same problem it was my dizzy.

then guess i gotta replace mine. Damn re manufactured D-series distributors are garbage.
I also can't seem to figure out where the intake air temperature sensor is on the z6. Also, what does the Purge solenoid plug into? I can 't seem to find anything that matches the plug type

 

dont worry about the purge solenoid. it wont throw a cel. u dont need it to run. Its for emmisions. your Iat may be non existant on your engine if it came out of a car that ran a speed density sensor on the intake tube. If your intake manifold doesnt have the Iat get one and fit it into your intake.

In other fantastic news. I HAVE NO SPARK. I just changed the coil in the dizzy and did the spark plug test and I've got zero. How do I go about testing the distributor?

SO its been snowing here for the past few days and just had time to look at it all again.
My friend just picked up a 95 del sol with a z6 so i thought why not test his dizzy.

SAME CODE 15
plus now a code 8 TDC

what else can cause a code 15 cause I'm banging my head against a wall
I'm gonna check spark tomorrow and if my dizzy is getting power from the battery.
Anyone have a clue?
