Icon2 Replacing Megan Track Series Coilover Components

Whats up HT. Been a while since I posted but I have recently decided to keep my NFR AP1 hardtop... Pics to come as soon as it gets out of the body shop.

Ive been driving on the Track series coils and struts (12kg's front and back with AGGRESSIVE dampening) for a couple years now. Its great on perfectly smooth roads but as this is going to be my daily driver for the forseable future, Id like to soften up the ride and still stay as close to as low as I am (pretty slammed). Its getting to be unbearably uncomfortable.

My question is this - I am considering replacing them with 8kg, or 10kg, and new struts as well accordingly. WILL 8kg be too soft for a lowered s2k driving on normal city streets? (as of now the slightest of bumps could break my shorty's back) I just wanna be able to drive on a normal street without feeling like im driving an f1, and still be able to be low.

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance for any help offered.

Aggressive coilovers can ride very well if you have the right damper settings. I think your problem is that you have megan coilovers. They're junk. Instead of replacing them with more megan junk, buy something decent to keep it comfy yet aggressive. Damping curve and quality have a LOT to do with comfort.

8k is on the soft side. I think S2000 CRs come with around 7-8k springs. My KWs are around 9.5-10k and the car rides like silk....but not if you slam it. That might be the other reason for your shitty ride quality.

Maybe try buddy club RSDs? Reasonble price. Decent ride. Good range of adjustment. Good spring rates. Reasonably "slam friendly".

Actually I have experience with many different types of suspensions, Megan is one of the best Ive ever tried, Dont know about other apps but for the s2k the track series is absolutely amazing, tearing up a track is simple with these, but drives rough on the streets. (and this is now strictly a daily driver. Megan has just as good craftsmanship, features, and engineering behind their suspensions as any other aftermarket company so I dont really know if you perhaps have bad experience of if your just stating an opinion as fact. Ive felt Mugen coils that I couldnt stand.

Also, The ride height is adjustable seperate from preload, So I have a full stroke no matter what ride height unless i hit the bumpstops which I never have, or my car hits the ground, which happens very rarely. So once again, I dont really know what your talking about.

My comfort is directly a quotient of my spring rates, shock valving, and height.

I agree with you though, I think 8kg's is too soft, Im going to do slightly normally valved shocks and 10kg's all around.

i think you may be the first person to ever say that megan coilovers are some of the best youve ever tried...what suspensions have you tried?

im sorry was there anything useful to any of this conversation? If you dont have an answer, dont answer. I dont get it, im on here to find information, not to chat. I love megan coils for the s2k, the only other car I know riding them is a dc5 and it rides great on that as well, and for years, and its been autocrossed with the specific intent of testing them and they performed very well. Im not trying to argue, go drive on them I dont care what you have on your car, Im asking about mine. Honda-tech used to be so much more intelligent.

if anyone has any advice on whether 8kg's would be too soft for a fairly low s2000, then please... Ive pretty much decided on 10 because Id rather slightly stiff than slightly soft. still curious though.

^talk about avoiding the question.

8 would be to soft for a lowered s2k IMO more so if you have an aggressive rim/tire set-up. Like stated earlier, dampening makes all the difference. If you would have bought a decent set of coilovers you wouldn't have made this thread.

you could always not post if it bothers you that bad....ill tell you that 95% of us are going to tell you megan is junk and theyre not worth fixing, but if youve decided on 10 then why are you still asking advice?

[Sarcasm] Yeah, a coilover with 12kg springs that rides very well ONLY on straight, smooth, flat roads (where. suspension is pretty much inactive) sounds very well engineered and probably features excellent craftsmanship.

There's plenty of reputable companies that put out coilovers with springs that the dampers obviously can't account for. Especially when they're :gasp: as high as 12k!! That's the stiffest spring EVERZZ!! [/sarcasm]

You don't have to take the advice. But the fact is that I answered your questions a few different ways and offered advice on what to do to actually fix the ride quality. Good luck re-engineering the world's best square wheel, though.

Dude, it seems to me that once the price of the car got low enough for your average high-schooler to get a hold of one, it's been this way.

It's why I'm not around that much anymore. I still check in every now and again to see what's happening, but I just run into the same **** all the time.

I just wish more people would have some sense about them and stop acting like retards all the damn time.
