Default No v tec

Hey guys. New here and to hondas...first one I've even considered buying... 2003 rsx. Auto.. Completely stock, runs good just doesn't seem like the v tec doesn't work at all.. What rpm should the v tec kick in on my stock k20? I'm not dumb when ur comes to cars, I work at a shop soooooo just need a little info..

the base model comes with a k20a3 motor, 160hp, and only has the i-vtec on the intake cam (others have it on intake and exhaust), and it doesnt really have a aggressive cam matched with the quiet stock intake system so your not really gonna hear a vtec engagement like other motors

It's hard to call someone immature when you don't know basic grammar.

BTW, TS did you really buy an AUTO RSX for Vtec

its supposed to kick in at 2800 but you won't really feel it

Yea you won't feel or hear a difference unless you put some after market parts on it but still won't make a big difference. A 2003 rsx is a good car though. I know a aftermarket intake and maybe a full catback exhaust might make you hear it.

Sorry, I keep forgetting that the interwebs are no place for fun. Maybe I should be one of the people that posts "search n00b"....heck, your post wasn't even really right....the vtec on the k20a3,k24a1,k24a4,k24a8 ect... works this way.....it only opens one of the two intake valves through each motor cycle till 2200 rpm, then the vtec changes over and it opens both intake valves.......so you have 3 valves per cyclinder till around 2200 rpm then the motor goes over to 4 valves per cyclinder....honda did this to get low end tq that 4 cyclinder 16 valve motors tend to lack. Your discription would be valid for the jdm dc5 type-s k20a( all k motors in the jdm for the ep3/dc5 cars have "k20a" stamped on them) have "real vtec" on the intake cam that does not change over from a low cam till around 5800rpm and then jumps over to a more agressive cam profile...but only on the intake cam....

being an auto and being the base model engine... the issue at hand is VTEC engagement is VERY low in the RPM... Like stated before around 2800 RPMS so you'll never get that feeling of VTEC engagement like old school B series and etc.

I'm sorry TS but if you wanted the thrills of vtec you should have bought a Type-S which has real i-VTEC with both cams and a lot more aggressive. The base model only has single intake vtec and is not aggressive at all.
