Default How do you time a 98 civic?

1998 Honda Civic EX

I have commented on here how I hear a slight tapping in the morning, before complete warm up, then it seems to go away. I am wondering if this is timing related as it takes two to three cranks of the key in the ignition to start the vehicle. Timing belt, etc were recently replaced and I wonder if they just marked the crank and cam for belt placement to avoid timing? In any case what cylinder do I time off of? I have one of those timing guns that you need to put inline of the spark wire, I assume this would work. I also assume that there are timing marks on the cover? Thanks again! Any info appreciated.

I would recommend a hanes manual or equivalent but if mem serves line the arrow's on cams up straight up and down (12 o'clock) and u will have marker that will show tdc (top dead center) on the crank u will have to find this and line this up for timing to b right. Is it a dual or single cam ?

Single OHC. I have a Haynes manual, but figured I could get more straight away info here...

Follow the Haynes manual. Of check the FAQ. I'm sure there are some links there.

No problem. Just joking. I'll have to crack the ole Haynes manual. Damn, did I say I HATE cars with a passion? I think I have worked more on my cars in my life time than number of times getting laid...

At least my vehicles don't expect me to talk to them when I'm done... hahahahahaha...
