what? you can't figure out how to fill it up.. you put 3 in.. it looks full.. but it's not?

and 3 is right for a drain/fill. whatever mysterious way you did it.

Yes in what they told they were incorrect.

When you pull the drain plug, only 2 to 3 quarts of the atf are going to come out. The rest of the fluid is trapped inside the mysterious parts unknown called the automatic transmission. From what I have read is you drain and refill with about 2.5 quarts and then check the level. Then you need to drive it for a while or just use the car normally for 20 to 50 miles, and do the fluid dump and change again, repeat the process, again in another 20 to 50 miles.

Because of the fact that all the fluid won't come out you will never have a 100% fresh fluid, I forget what I have read here but you get something like 75%-85% fresh fluid after 3 changes. This is why Honda recommends that the fluid be changed every 25k to 30k miles. I believe there are several better explanations on this site in the faq and other threads.

Oh yah and you have to fill it through the dipstick hole. Get a long funnel from your favorite auto parts store for less than $2 and pull the dipstick out add it through there. Not the oil dipstick on the right but the one on the left down towards the bottom. If you are unsure don't do it.

The transmission holds around 3 quarts, the torque converter holds about the same, but the only way to drain it is to pull the tranny, generally honda recomends doing 3 drain and fills, which equals about 9 quarts. The procedure is basically drain and fill, turn car on, cycle through the gears (you could add a short test drive here if you wanted to) lather, rinse, repeat.

yep, most the fluid is in the torque converter. you can have the transmission pressurized to blow out all the old fluid and add the 9qts of fluid. this cost around 99$ and saves alot of time. if not, drain and refill 3times.

If you try powerflushing a honda transmission they tend to die shortly after. Powerflushing tends to blow everything out of the internal filter and it then gets trapped in valve body.

it holds 6.5 quarts total. the fluid level is checked cold, not running.
should we call this a miracle you can install a trans but not fill it up?
