HONDATA S300 or APXEI VAFC2
Hey guys I've been told by a few tuners that the hondata s300 is the route to go for tuning I currently have the b16a2 with upgrades and im running the Apexi vafc2 the reason why is because thats what was being used at the time with I got my car and swap so I was wondering if anyone had any legit info on the hondata s300 if you could please tell me the perks, and share your thoughts idc what is said I just want your honest opinons. I serioulsy need some help on this and lemme know the advantages and disadvantages
This has been discussed many times in the past. The VAFC is not true engine tuning as simple as I can state it. Someone will come along and explain in detail but there is no need for a poll. A quick Google search would have gotten you all the info you needed. YOu should try it next time.

And if tuners are telling you maybe take that to heart that they know what they are talking about.

Neither. Neptune RTP. IMO one of the best tuning systems on the market, head and shoulders above S300. Crome Pro is not a bad and cheaper alternative as well.
If I had the money and ability I would get the RTP w/ Ostrich and do all my own tuning, but Im no computer guy and Im not willing to put my 4k build on the line to save $300 for a dyno tune.
I'm not familiar with the Neptune RTP but I've not heard any bad about it, but I'll just keep my statement as being between the S300 and VAFC because that's what I know about.
The VAFC is a device that tricks the computer. It manipulates the MAP sensor readings to make the ECU think there's a different input, and thus gives a different output than normal.
The S300 is a true tuning device that changes the actual tables and settings. It also allows boost by gear, boost cuts, temperature cuts, fan control, etc. It's an awesome engine management system.
Chrome works for a lot people, but I've heard it takes a little more skill to program it. It can do pretty much everything Hondata can. There's two guys in town who have or had turbo GSR swapped Civics and ran Chrome without any issues.

It works great for 95% of the motors/builds on this forum. Crome Pro Gold is a great program, its too bad development has stopped on it. Many tuners who have used it for years can easily get around any bugs that may come up if they know what they are doing. I feel it will be updated at some point just by demand for it.

I'm sure Hondata s300 is good as well but for the price it sells for I don't think I would ever purchase it.
But in the end if you are not the tuner yourself, go with what your tuner is good at.
Thanks for all the input I know that the vafc is like a manipulator to the ecu I had purchased it just before the s300 came out so ive had it for a while I have it on the car but I havent had it tuned. It's obvious that theres other tuning devices on the market I just want to make sure I make the right choice and right purchase for the money. Im looking to spend about $550 so my next question is what would be a better purchase with that amount?
You can get a NepTune RTP installed in an ECU for $30 more than an S300 by itself. If you already have an ECU, you save a bunch!
