Default Noisy exhaust Valvetrain b18b

Just replaced TB and WP on my b18b and adjusted the valve lash.

Everything is in spec and car runs smooth but I am getting a lot of tapping noise from the exhaust valves (alsmost like a slap). Intake side is perfect.

Also, when I was adjusting the exhaust side, regardless of the lash, the rocker arm can be wiggled from side to side much more than the intake side. I am guessing this may be the culprit; however, not really sure how to address it?

Should the pivot bolts be changed? or adjustment screw?

car has 130K

What were your specs that you went to?

I think its .008mm for exhaust, and .006mm intake.

I did .003 intake and .006 exhaust

B18B
INTAKE: 0.003" - 0.005" (0.08mm - 0.12mm)
EXHAUST: 0.006" - 0.008" (0.16mm - 0.20mm)

I knew it was something like that....just out of curiosity, you went:

TDC, intake side, cyl 1, rotate, intake side, cyl 3, etc etc....

Sure did.

1-3-4-2

I'll probably re-do the exhaust side again just to be sure.

Mine does that too, some people have said that the LMAs are worn out or something.

b18b do not have lma's (only Vtec heads).

Maybe they meant the end pivot or pivot bolts, which is what I thought.

I just did a valve adjustment on my lsv with type r cams, to retainer and dual spring, itr pistons. I adJust to

Intake 0.006
Exhaust 0.007
My problem is similar to yours it's tapping from the exhaust side. I will also redo the adjustment see if that works.

I have a friend with the same problem on his EP3, when adjusting his lash I noticed one of the exhaust valves having a loose something ( really hard to see the back side of a K series in that car) it seemed like a retainer or "base" of the spring where I inserted the feeler guage to take measurment.
