Default Buying a new old car...

Very green here. I'm looking at an 89 ef. It's not at a bargain price but it looks to be in fine condition. It runs strong and no signs of smoke. If I get the car I would hope to drive it as is, in stock form, for at least a year. And swap later.

What do you do besides the obvious when you are looking to buy? Do you go through the trouble of checking compression and also do a leak down test?

Appreciate the forums experience...

I know that as a seller, i wouldn't appreciate somebody doing a leakdown/compression test on a car that i have for sale.

I think that as a buyer all you can do is check the fluids/leaks, check it starts from cold and from hot, if it's automatic check for slippage and transmission whine. Note any noises that concern you during the test drive and weigh up if you think it's worth it at the end.
