ok guys the cars a 2001 ap1 and if your at a stop light and getting rdy to pop the car into 1st gear you can feel a surge or kinda like the rpm will kick and the car kicks forward a tiney little bit.. does anyone know if this is normal? everything on the car is stock accept the cat and header.. has 50k miles on it.. thanks in advance guys !
zip tie the map sensor to the tb, it will reduce the severity of it, but that dip in RPM's when coming to a stop will still persist. if that's not it, well you probably did the repair/fix wrong

i dont think im explaining this correct to u guys ... ok lets say im in neutral at a stop light and i clutch in and put the car into 1st gear.. as im putting it into gear the tranny feels like its under load as im putting it into gear and jolts the car forward a tiney bit ... and you can also c it in the rpm going up a few lines... does this make sense ?

I feel it's normal and does not worry me. I'd say it's the synchros doing their work but I'm no mechanic.
FWIW, I get the same feeling from my lowly 2001 Jetta IV.

I'm a newb here and eager to get out of trial user status so I can have full access to the board. So the night I joined I posted 3 quality comments and 2 shitty ones, something along the lines of "Just another post 2 get out of trial status" It was late and the muse ran out. Pretty much instantaneously I received a PM from It Wasn't Me deleting my 4th & 5th posts outright and telling me to do better in the 2 weeks left of trial time.
I immediately replied that he/she was right, so now I'm just PDing 2 let him/her know I take my comments seriously (this is my 6th) and counting the days towards full access, so ...

id say no...i got to thinking though, whats the highest octane you guys in cali get? its 91, right? just throwing ideas out there, but ive never experienced it and neither has anyone i know, but, with that said we have 93 here, it might be the reason because i cant think of anything else without actually seeing exactly what its doing.....just a thought
i don't get how the car surges forward, when it's not in gear. It sounds like your clutch isn't fully depressing. I think sometimes the revs can wobble a bit when selecting first gear, but the car can only move if it's in gear. Clutch out.

i drove my em1 for 130 k miles with the stock clutch how can this things clutch be going out at 50k? thats horrible
I would look into bleeding your clutch system, and also checking your clutch pedal adjustment, i know what you mean though. Mine did it, sometimes I never press the pedal in quite enough so when you put it into first it would jolt the car, nothing violent but enough to notice it.
I know what he's talking about. It's the synchros catching the gear up to speed so it will slide into place.
Here's what I do in my car to counter it.
I typically start to put my car in 3rd, back it out, and then actually engage 3rd gear, then I go straight to 1st to take off. I will stop the notchy feeling going into 1st and also reduce the clunk you hear when engaging 1st.
It takes a little practice, but I can go through the entire 3 step process in under 2 seconds.
Lemme know if I hit the doorbell on the button or not.

someone in a post up there ^ said maybe the clutch might be going out.. but if i shift into 2nd gear on the throttle the rear end brakes loose.. so i dont think the clutch is going out...
