90 prelude s, axle nut will not budge!
So I'm replacing the cv half shafts on my friends 90 prelude s cause both boots are completely torn, the car is a mess. Anyway I go to remove the axel nut with the car on the ground using my breaker bar and 5ft pipe for leverage and my breaker bar brakes lol. I buy a new one and brake that the exact same way. I'm stumped, I've done this tons of times on other hondas and never had a problem. Is there a trick on ludes? Also I might add that I soaked it in pb blaster first and unstaked the axel nut tab. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.
No, theres no trick on ludes. Try heating it up with a torch, or if you have access to an impact. Also, you can try hitting on the breaker bar with a hammer a few times. It may just be the original axle and has 20yrs of corrosion holding it in there.
Ya, I'm prabably gonna try using a really powerful impact wrench when I have time at the shop. And ya I'm pretty sure it's the original axel nut from the car lol yikes! Thanks for the suggestions.
I dunno man, I thought I'd never get them off my lude either. Went to the scrap yard and got me a 1/4 inch thick, 5ft long steel pipe with a breaker bar. Oh, plus half a can of pb blaster lol.
happened to me, too. try tightening it just a little before you go to loosen it. you may have years of that nut pressing against those threads. you may not be able to loosen it until you tighten it just a little(you don't have to turn it more than 1/8 of a turn).
^ what he said then hit with a lil pb blaster and wipe excess off so u can get a grip on it then try taking it off if no luck still pb and let it sit for awhile and spray a few times and let sit. next thing would be a good impact and just hold it there for a min until it breaks loose
