Has Honda Motor of America put a recall/bulletin on this issue or are the leaving everyone to fin for themselves?
Is there a procedure for me to watch on any other tranny issue? Like:
wet & dripping tranny
fluid spots
fluid level
fluid color (brown) & smell (burnt)
Check engine light -Error Codes.
"S" Sport light - Error Codes.
Warming the tranny up before test driving it.
Check for smooth shfting according to precise RMP revolutions.
Am I missing anything?
Anyone got any feed back for me?

I'm a master technician at a Honda dealership. Avoid the V6. Even if there aren't symptoms present like flaring, delayed shifts, harsh shifts etc, there will be.
Honestly, Honda hasn't made a good car in 10 years.

Just look the car online at kelly blue book. This dude is asking way to much $5,900.00 & its got a salvage title. The most my bro is willing to spend is $5,500.00 and kelly blue book has is down for:
Excellent - $4,060.00
Good - $3,685
Fair - $3,060
But the Milage is not mentioned for some reason.

Best? There were many great cars made by Honda. But, as I said, Honda hasn't made a good car in 10 years. If I had to choose bang for buck I'd go with a mid-late 90's civic in manual transmission.
Agreed on the transmission, but a decently rebuilt salvage title car is a good first car. That way if they total it it's not nearly as big a hit on the wallet. As far as that car, it's way overpriced
Tell your bro to keep looking.
WOW! Thanks guys. The dude owns a body shop, and this car came in with artificial front damage. Strictly plastic and rubber parts, had to replace front bumper and front grill, no chassy damage and no airbag deployed.
Insurance wrote off the car as being as total, so the guy bought it and did the repairs.
I’m gonna go with Blue Book and try to negotiate. I haven’t seen a 98accord ever being sold for $5,900.00. I got to brake out negotiation skills.

In case this deal on the 98accord does not pan out, anyone konw of any good places to go shoping for a alternative honda in the San Francisco or East Bay area? Get at me.
Let's not get too crazy. I share some of your disdain for the recent crop of Honda's but that may be overgeneralizing a bit.
My 98 with the 4 banger and manual is reliable as any Honda and is as well made. I absolutely agree with your thoughts on the automatic though.

Well, Im off. I want to give thanks to those who gave a crap and gave good positive feedback. I will post up the results this afternoon.
The verdict is in. Had to walk away from the deal for the right reasons not the wrong reasons. I’m gonna put out the good, the bad & the ugly.
Da good: car was clean, and smooth, the weather in South San San Francisco was awesome.
The bad: To much money, the dude would not budge or negotiate on the prize. He was straight up with us about the A/C not working, the condenser needed to be replace. The part itself is about $300.00 plus labor, plus recharging the system and double checking for leaks. That’s at least $500.00. and dude did not want to nock it down, so that would of put us at 5,400.00, which is way over and beyond on blue book value.
Da Ugly: dude drove up with no plates and it has a plate cover from the used car stealership the dude works at during the week and pushes the extra sales & commission on weekends. I did not appreciate him misleading us on Craigslist as portraying himself to be independant car owner.
Dude had a **** up attitude, his phone kept ringing from other potential byres calling to see the car and he would answer it, while we were in the car test driving it.
What can I say, he was the worst used car sale man I've had ever dealt with. He was rude, unprofessional, conniving. He knows folks are getting their tax money in and his pushing high sales with out a heart. We pass, not because the car was good or bad, but because of the money was not right. The dude did not know and did not care that we only had $5500.00. Its not that we were not willing to pay for it, but in this economy, we can get more car by spending less money elsewhere? The sad part about it, this dude is waiting for the next victim, possible a single mother with one or fix income trying to raise a family right.
I’m sorry, but this dude rub me the wrong way, from the get go. He did not make it difficult for us to walk away from a shady deal.
I still had a great day, just to hang out with my older brother, no kids , no wives. We had a chance to hang out and talk. It was a good day.

Sorry it didn't work out for you OP.
But I'm glad to hear you passed, that car is absolutely not worth that price. And I HATE "salesmen" like that, that kind of behavior will easily make me walk away from a sale.
Smartass, haha
I was more referring to the fact that my cars generation lasts up into 2002 though, and not much changed with my drivetrain and accessories up until then.
Same question.

To the salvage title naysayers...
Here in Calif a salvage title doesn't mean much. A 10year old car in perfect shape that gets nerfed in traffic can easily be totaled out and receive a salvage title just on the cost of paint alone. It's not an instant deal breaker. If airbags have been deployed and it needs new crash sensors/bags and bumper/hood, then yes avoid it.
laloquera916 do yourself a favor, the '98-02 and some 03 Accord automatics are just time bombs. There is a design flaw that causes the transmission to eat itself, it's a hit or miss. Honda had a problem with these transmissions in the Accord and Odyssey. If you are hell bent on a '98-'02 model ONLY look at manual transmission cars.
If an Accord automatic is what you seek stick to the 90-93 or 94-97 models. The automatics in these cars will last 200K easy.
