In Process Starting A Mini Me Build Got Everything I Needed From

y8 head
itm
y8 trans
y7 block
OBD2A-OBD1 jumper
ECU

Try the FAQ. 4 links there for mini-me swaps.
If you check in YOUR link he remove the distributor, sets it aside and reinstalls it. So if you're following that write up just do everything that they did and try not to second guess. It also said they used the Y8 cam gear.

Maybe re-read that DIY a couple of times before you attempt this.
