misfire on my 1.7 V-Tec
installed a new set of denso's double platinum's in my 2005 civic 1.7 V-Tec, when we noticed the rubber end of one of the coil plugs was burn't off. So we bought 4 new coils, gapped the plugs 3 different times and were still geting a miss at idle. I was told to gap at .044 kinda lose on the gage, the last time was tight fit at .042 still misses. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please
you also replaced the coils as well....possible one of them is faulty? what cylinder is the mis on? answer those questions then go from there with swapping coilpacks to another cylinder see if it moves with the part...do you have a scan tool? is there a code? whats the misfire count on live stream? agian answer those questions then its easier to help you....
Was it misfiring before you changed plugs?
Which Denso plugs did you get? They should be the PKJ20CR-M11 plugs. Personally, I prefer the NGK PZFR6F-11.
If the car was not misfiring until after you changed plugs, that's likely the problem. (the plugs) Stick with the OEM recommendation. (both are listed in this post)
If they are the correct plugs, scan the car for codes and post the codes here. (as previously noted by 99blackcivicSi)

Today I decited to put the old coils back in after geting a check engine light, i took it down and got the codes read and there were five different codes,1, 2, 3, 4, clys. misfired and 5th one was random misfire. After reinstalling the old coils, I first pulled the rubber valve cover seal, and the bottom rubber plug boot off one of the new coils to put in place of the 1 set that was burnt up from excessive heat on the original set. Anyway the car runs perfect now, bottom line is Napa Auto Parts gave us a total refund for all 4 coils. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT
Note to self: Don't ever buy coil packs from Napa.
That's really bizarre, though. I've seen a handful of people experience misfire issues from using the wrong plugs, but never from installing four new but defective coil packs. Wow.
Thanks for updating the thread!
