Del Sol T-Top Issues...Noisy Top
My top seems loose. It squeaks and rattles as I drive around. I checked the bolts under the plastic on the a-pillar and everything seems tight but the damn top won't stop making SO MUCH NOISE! Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions! I hate the Noise!
Spray some silicone lubricant on the roof seals. Theres also a couple bolts under the sun visors that you can put washers under to snug things up. I remember seein a how-to floating around somewhere online, try google.
Silicone grease works great. Honda uses grease called Shin-Etsu. Dont use washers to tighten the roof. We tried this when these cars were new and the Honda factory tech engineers got pissed! They claim the roof is supposed to "float". If the seals have hardened, and by now, they probably have hardened. Replace the roof seals and keep them soft with silicone grease.
^^^Great ideas guys. I had every seal in the car replaced about a year ago cause the trunk and top were leaking. I will try some greasing the seals.
datsol94 - would adding washers do any real damage? I just want the noise to stop. I never ever take the top off so i'm not really worried about having it be 100% functional. I just want the noise to stop. *ripping hair out*

Found some old info....
There is a way to tighten the top to stop rattling with some washers(link), it's easy to do but I advise you, this is only a temporary solution and will lead to worst rattling later. Try and take your roof off and lock the handles (put in locked position), now look at the pins at the four corners, if they are loose that's what makes the roof rattle.

This is my first posting, so here goes...
I just fixed my noisy roof after enduring it for the 8 years i've owned it. I would search on and off and no one seemed to have a sure fix and all the tips seemed too involving, with adding washers here and there. I'm sure there may be many different types of issues with roof noise out there, so I was skeptical that adding washers would fix my kind of rattle, which seemed more like "plasticy", squeaky, not metallic rattle.
Here's my simple fix, and it sounds like we have the same kind of noise. When I dismantled the roof, I noticed the cushiony upholstery material seemed pretty loose and I recalled that I narrowed the location of my rattle and it was in that exact location, right behind my head in the middle, where the edge of the roof touches the rear roof frame/pillar. When I opened up that panel, I noticed there was carpet padding type of material, which seemed really thin and old. Luckily I had some carpet material in my garage and I cut out some strips and glued them to the underside of the panel, around where the original materials were. My material is thicker, so I didn't want to glue it on top of the existing material or it would be too thick. I reassembled the roof and took it for a spin. Guess what? No more loud roof rattle. Problem now is that the roof is quiet, I'm starting to hear a little rattle on the dash that was masked by the deafening roof rattle.
No washers, no hassle with padding up metal rods, nothing but some carpet padding did the trick.
Another tip is do some research on how to properly dismantle the roof and put it back carefully. I had a little trouble figuring it out myself and broke a little clip when trying to snap the pieces back together.
Good luck!

What year do you have? The 93-94 Del Sol's have different seal designs than the 95+ if I remember correctly.
Well anyways what I did was take my top off and cleaned up the rubber seals, put on some silicone spray lube to keep it wet and moist and slathered on some die-electric grease and put her back together. Total cost was about $11 (The grease was like $8 for a huge bottle), should be lower if you can find some silicone grease for cheaper.
It's killed some of the road and wind noise, and it no longer leaks :D
