1992 HONDA CIVIC 1.5DX WILL NOT START
1992 Honda civic with 280000 miles. Gets spark and fuel and air. The main relay does the 3 clicks like I read it is supposed to. It turns over. valve train looks like it's moving in the oil fill hole. Engine light does not stay on like there is a problem.
Funny thing though, when the engine light goes out it makes a clicking, almost like a ratcheting sound, continuous for a few seconds. It's not coming from the Main relay, or the ECM, I can't figure out what this noise is. It has been doing it for a long time inconsistently but the car always ran. Sounds like the noise is coming from underneath. I don't know.
Before it died it ran really rough at idle but seemed to smooth out when running. Now nothing.
Help
Thanks

Mine made a crazy ratcheting/ clicking noise on the passenger side. I thought it was the ECU but I unhooked the battery and tightened the cables. Started fine after that .
I don't think it's the starter that seems to work fine. Onward to check compression, and tighten and clean batt. terminals. What should the compression be??
Please and thanks

I'm thinking around 200 +/-20 (180-220)? If I remember correctly there shouldn't be more than a difference of 25 for any 2 cylinders.
You should do the compression test when the motor is warmed up as well.
