98 Accord LX, Maintenance Required Light on and engine turns off
I have a 1998 Accord LX (4 door sedan, 4 cylinder automatic). Car has about 120k miles. Car is up to date with all general maintenance. Over the last 3 months, my maintenance required light would come on occasionally for about 1 second when I'm driving, and then it would go off immediately. I used my OBDII scanner to check what's wrong after every time the maintenance required light comes on, and the OBDII scanner shows no DTC code being triggered. This weekend, the maintenance required light came on again, but this time the engine turned off immediately. The car restarts immediately and drive normal (idles is normal and steady also). I scanned the car again, and once again, no DTC codes were triggered. I would like to have this fix before I get stuck somewhere at the most inopportune time. Has anyone experienced this issue? Does anyone know what causes this issue and what would the fix be? Is this an easy fix that I can do myself or should I just take it in for service now? Any comment and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
This follow up is for those who might come across the same issue in the future. After about a month of trying diagnose this issue. I was in the process of giving up and take it to the mechanic. I finally decided to clean the throttle body, but once the throttle body is out, I also took a look at the IACV. The IACV was pretty gummed up, so I replaced it. I've been driving around for about 2 weeks and the issue has got away. Car no longer stalls in rush our traffic when gas is not being applied. I'm also getting 2mpg better gas mileage. Good luck to those who follow my footsteps.
