When you advance your timing what acctually happens? what does it do?

Simple, no need to search... heh....

It allows the distributor to initiate the spark earlier in the combustion cycle, thereby allowing more time for flame propogation (burn), resulting in better fuel economy and more HP/Tq.

However, you need to remember that advancing timing too much will result in more heat being present during every cycle, increasing the chances of detonation. Which is why you should only run advanced timing when using premium gas (more detonation resistant)
