Default 1991 civic d16y7/y8 coolant problem

hi i got a 91 civic with d16 i just put arp head studs in and a new head gasket. after driving around for 10 mins i came home and the overflow was filled up. Before doing the head gasket, it started to overheat. So I replaced the thermostat and it was fine for a week and it started again. So i did the studs and headgasket. now the overflow is filling up and not going back to rad any help would be appreciated.

when the car is running i can kinda smell antifreeze in the engine bay. The exhaust doesn't smell like antifreeze? there is no antifreeze in my oil im wondering is there something blocking the flow of fluid and causing it to overflow but not be sucked back into the radiator?

Not likely, but could be a weak radiator cap not holding pressure allowing coolant to get past it to the overflow tank.

Are your upper and lower rad hoses both warm/hot to the touch or is one noticably cooler?
