What is stopping you from signing up for Expo?
Bumping for 2013 - same question still applies. An awesome event that depends on the community is at risk of being canceled due to lack of participation. Why? Let's talk this one out........ The only thing that has changed is that it is at Mid Ohio, and no, Todd00 isn't going to go. Skip to page 10 for 2013 discussion
First off let me state that this isn't a loaded thread that is set to attack anybody, nor does any of the crap that comes out of my mouth speak on behalf of itrca or the expo committee.
With that being said I had noticed that the Expo 11 thread has had virtually zero activity on here which is saddening as those announcement threads are always full of hype and excitement. With that being said yes I know that many members cross post and have been using the one on the expo site but none the less most of the active members now in this section are not.
So I guess the burning question is what is keeping you from going? Is it money, worrying about wrecking your car, nervous on the thoughts of being on track, afraid of feeling like an outsider from not knowing anybody at first? I say that because those were concerns of mine, but the ITR community regarded breaking your track cherry as almost a right of passage and were extremely helpful so now I want to make sure that same spoon I was fed with is extended to anybody with a slight interest. The thought of getting on track is highly daunting and I had many questions, fortunately having the ITR community as a backbone of support made the transition extremely easy.
Becoming a regular weekend trackrat is one thing, but this is an extremely unique event that is always extremely inviting to new drivers. A very safe, fun and relatively affordable event that is far more than just a normal track day
I can't help but think that there is a rift, almost a generation gap between the pre and post November 2008 groups which could ultimately be damaging years down the road when many of the current guys start reproducing and falling off into obscurity, a small grassroots group like this only grows one way. I guess a little topic perhaps addressing concerns couldn't hurt. Also feel free to PM me as well.
Old guys, feel free to chime in or tell me that I have it completely wrong. This topic has came up in real-life discussions before but it never reaches the appropriate audience that way.

The North East guys normally roll pretty deep too.
Honestly, I think it is great these expos are still be hosted, but I'm also afraid they are coming to their end-of-life. I was personally hoping for a Mid-Ohio expo this year, but if it is next year, count me in.
Regardless, I hope they are still be hosted for many years to come. Also, I think a switch in marketing might be needed to generate interest.

7 years ago or so a South Carolina expo would have been freaking packed. Problem is, most of these guys have moved on and it seems folks are no longer buying the ITR for what it is.

now the trick is getting people to show. I've wanted to do a full length documentary video on the community for years but I constantly lose directional focus.
This is what my GSR would need to run:
Tires
New Bushings (14 years has killed them)
New engine and transmission mounts
Axle Seal Repaired
I need to sell my MF8s to get some funds.

If it were up to me, I'd have registered for Buttonwillow in a heartbeat. Then, it was because it was too far away. Now, it's because I need to keep my grades up, but 90% chance 97-208 will be making the trip.
I've always wanted to attend, but its 14 hours away.
Understand you can't make everyone happy and have it down the street for them. Everyone has their distance they are willing to drive, and that's over mine.

Maybe somebody could edit the title of Wes's thread to change CMP to Carolina Motorsports Park? I could see how that could be glanced over if it wasn't a familiar acronymn.
