I have 194k miles on it and the engine is loud. Doesn't knock, just seems loud. Is that just because the engine has so many miles on it? Can I do anything about it to lower the engine noise? What should the tach reading be?Thanks.

 

If the engine's loud, you need to adjust the valve lash. Factory spec is 0.010" intake side & 0.012" on the exhaust side using a feeler guage. The Tachometer should read 700-800 rpm at idle(hot).

 

he is right. You need to do a valve adjustment whenever your engine gets loud like that.

 

Do you have a cold air intake in your engine bay?

 

"Loud"??? Can you help with a bit more detail?

Ticking, clicking type-yes check valves....also be sure the exhaust manifold isn't cracked. The stock ones are kind of "known" for doing that....I've replace mine two or three(maybe more?) times, everytime it was "loud"....my two cents.
