Default 98 2.3 into a 96

I have searched the forums and didn't come up with a conclusive answer for this this swap. I have a 96 Vtec EX with an overheating issue. The head was resurfaced by the PO and the over heating has returned. My question is will I run into problems putting a 98 or 99 2.3 Vtec into my 96? I have a 98 and a 99 2.3 that I could use for the swap. Anybody know about any issues with this swap?

Direct swap. You can use your stock ECU and it'll run fine. If you switch to the F23 ECU, you'll have to deal with the immobilizer, which isn't worth 5hp
