Default new headunit stolen? without faceplate?

so i just installed my new headunit in my ep(still stock speakers and everything though :[ )
and im wondering

has anyone ever had their headunit stolen even with the fact that you took the faceplate off and took in with you?

my friend recently got his sub and HU stolen but he had his faceplate in
(yes he had an alarm but by the time he came out it was too late)

(yes i have an alarm)

i'm sure it has happened before, especially if it's a NICE one but just don't be stupid about it don't bump near home or your destination and don't show it off to people

Happened to me on one of my older cars lol. I was so pissed because that was my favorite HU I've ever had to date lol. So stupid, it was discontinued at the time it was stolen also so it's not like the perp can get another HU somehow.

This happens a lot because it's relatively easy to get a replacement face, its the HU which is expensive.. I usually take my faceplate off if I'm in a sketchy area though because the HU has a red blinking LED status light which looks like I have an alarm

Same goes for me. I don't usually have my stereo too loud and always remove them even if it's parked 10 ft away from my living room window occassionally. Also, my unit has red blinking light that looks like an alarm, in addition to my other alarm light next to my dash near steering wheel (got some other surprises as well for the unexpected guests, lolz).

its easy to get a replacement faceplate?

so what's the point of even having a removable one O.o
i thought it was for security

personally if i were stealing stuff and i saw a removable one i wouldnt even bother because in the end i'd have a nice useless paperweight.

You could keep your OEM unit as a false unit, then just mount/install your new one into the glove box. Even if you take your face plate off people will still break in. 99% of people who actually take them off just stick them under their seat.

Yeah instead of a stolen head unit you get to deal with replacing then entire dash when they go ape **** and start breaking things as they pull and pry on everything trying to get it out.
