Default Pre-Bent Kits Don't Suck...

Maybe it's operator error?

Just thought I'd share pics of the S&W pre-bent 10 point. I had to have them ship me a longer bar for the rocker bar, and have it bent locally (thanks to PFIspeed and B-Dog). My friend, Paul (xohcef) and I did the install over the last two days. We did it with a chop saw, an angle grinder, some cut off wheels, and grinder discs. And a 110 Lincoln MIG.

I honestly couldnt be any happier with the fitment. If I had plastics in the car, the hoop would be super close to the pillars, and already is. With the width of the hook, and placement of the A-pillar bars, the door bars couldnt be any closer to my door panels. Anyways. On to the pics...

HUGE thanks to Paul, his roommate Travis, and his dad Jim, for all of the help, welding, garage space, trailer, etc. Couldnt have done it without them, especially Paul.

**** yea man. Thanks. A ton!

Oh, and BTW. I paid 269 shipped. After its all said and done, between gas, wire spools, food, etc, I probably havent put 400 into this cage. Again, courtesy of Paul. LOL.

S&W 10 Point Roll Cage Tubing Type:
X's in both doors:
X in the rear hoop:
Diagonal in the main hoop:
Swing Out Door Bar(s):
Front end triangulation:
Through or Around the Dash?:

can you fill these in to what cage you have? This will help me a lot on what to choose.

As stated in the first few words its a 10pt cage Mild Steel, idk what all that stuff is you posted... it has no X's or Diagonals anywhere.... just a plain jane 10pt with a rocker bar added.

Yea, exactly what he posted. Its your bare minimum 10 point. The rocker bar wasnt added. They say they include them now. Although they shipped me one that was too short, so I had to explain to the engineer what was up, so they shipped me 60", and I got it bent myself.

Its the mild steel (EWS) 10 point, through dash.

And yea Nayr, dash, carpet, and both seats are going back in. But Im gonna paint the inside and cage black first. Ill definitely put more pics up when its done.

I had a S&W kit on my old car, they do work and are cheap.

But they sure don't have the tight fitment that you would receive from a custom quality cage. That is what people are referring to in regards with the negative cage feedback . You get what you pay for. would never use another S@W though. The company itself does great work, besides those cages.

if you are happy with it that is all that matters -- remember that

but a custom built cage will always fit better -- you get what you pay for

and i am kind of with Miller on this one -- i guess for what it is it is okay - but i wouldn't call that a great fitting cage

I wouldn't expect any other response from someone who makes a living fabricating this kinda thing. But from all of the pics of pre bent kits I have seen, and the amount of experience we have with installation, I still think this one's worth bragging about.

I myself am happy as ****, and proud of what we did. In 2 days none the less. For a pre bent, if you think it could have fit better (and for under 300 shipped), keep lying to yourself. For a couple DIYers, on a super budget, I think its phenomenal.

And of course the nuthuggers will agree with "Miller". But they are also willing and able to shell out 4k on a cage. I can't and wont. Much more rewarding to say I did it myself, and built my car, over paying someone else 30k to do it for me...

Of course you wouldnt. If you approved of it, the people who actually CARED about your opinion, wouldnt be paying you. Because they might realize they could do it themselves at 1/10 the cost/price.

[EDIT] But imagine that. Come on Honda-Tech with something youre proud of, and expect people to not try and take that away from you? LOL. I would have been dumb if I expected anything less...

Cry me a river, I didnt bash your cage. I just said
I wouldnt call that a good fitting cage!
I am happy for you, it is great to see people learning and doing things themselves. I applaud you for you actions but just understand that there is a big difference between the pre bent stuff and custom fit cages. We charge nowhere near 4k for a cage. It is actually $2250 for a base 10pt.

Well I appreciate that. And I never said this or anything off the shelf was comparable to anything custom. That's just a given, as long as the fabricator doesn't suck. This post was to show pre bent isn't nearly as bad as people say. Like I said, 9/10 times, its operator error... "Patience is a virtue".

I could not agree more! I do everything myself, from building engines to somethimes tuning, I search for a custom cage found a shop somewhat locally that called MKR turbo named hondapi screen name on here, in Germany the **** wanted 1700 euros around $2400 for materials only he is 5 hours away and I drive a v8 pickup gas guzzler so add gas to that. I ended up getting a pre bent broke dick racing kit for $500 shipped that going through a middle man shipper since I am military APO. found out from a freind thats his price for Americans because we have too much money. Germans get charged 700eu. ****

Looks good ... Nice job. Correct me if I'm wrong u said u migged the whole Cage ? I think in order to pass cage cert it has to be tig welded only the floor plates can be migged I could be wrong but I swear that's what my guy said when my cage got certified.

only thing i would say to fix is make sure those front plates are welded all the way around. also is that a hole in the floor by the plate in the passenger side rocker? just keep in touch with whoever is going to certify it to make sure youre doing everything to spec.
