I bought this 2010 Civic Ex in december 09. I do quite a bit of driving. I've got about 25,000 on the speedometer. Car has always run good until the past like 2 to 3 months. Some mornings when i start the car it'll start but not strong. It sounds like it struggling to start up like a champ, starts low then happily starts. Also with that, when i drive for long periods of time lets say about 1hr worth of driving a day i'll get out the car and i'll smell a burning smell coming from under the car. It may be from the engine but im not 100%

This isn't a coolant burning smell its just a normal burning smell doesnt smell like anything particular. It may actually be coming from the brakes or break rotors. I used to think it was the A/C but then i started smelling it without it being on. The honda dealership has this dumb rule where they charge you like 120 just for checking it out, if they can't find anything wrong they take the 120 for checking and if they do find something wrong and it's not covered i have to pay. I don't really wanna take that gamble, has anyone else had this problem from the 2010 civic's

Car is automatic. 4door

Also, Car is completely stock.

 

Is it plastic burning smell? if it is crawl under your car (safely) and look at the exhaust, if it has any sort of jagged edges it may be a plastic bag melted to the exhaust... it seriously a common thing, especially with our cars... point and case - I had it happen like 2nd week having the car...

Its hard to see so really take a good look, any abnormal thing on the exhaust (it will probably be black so hard to see) will probably be plastic... I had to take a torch and a chissel to get it all off... it was right by my gas tank so a little scary but its common... check that

Check to see if there are any leaks.

If there are, follow the runoff, and you'll most likely find the culprit.

a friend of mine had a similair problem and it the his brakes, one of the pads was worn more than the other and after awhile of driving and stopping the pad was silently grinding with the rotors and making a burning type smell, he got the rotors cut and new pads and the smell never came back, you could try that but i also agree with the plastic bag theory as well.
