throttle non-responsive?
Okay guys I'm on the verge of being in some serious trouble. On Friday, I was driving to town and on an uphill my throttle became non responsive. I pulled over on the interstate and gassed the pedal many times. The engine only responded every couple of seconds. When it did, it would rev to about 2 grand and then promptly drop back to idle, even if I kept the pedal pressed down. i turned the car off and started it back up. Then, the throttle responded fine and as quick as always. Since then the car has driven fine, up until today on my way to work. Another uphill, same thing. I killed the car, started back up, but no change. Killed it again, no change. One last time, and then the throttle became responsive again. I don't know what the problem is but I think its electrical and I have the day off tomorrow to find out what the problem is.

Is it idling okay once started, even if the throttle isn't responding well?
If so, I'd say a sensor is to blame. Most likely the TPS from the sound of things. I know it sounds dumb, but if you have an OBD-II scanner, keep it on stand-by if you're up for that kind of thing, make sure the throttle % is working correctly.

There is no CEO as the bulb was removed by the previous owner. I know this because it doesn't come on when.I start the car.
The car idled perfectly. a little high (approx 1.1k) but that's where its always idled even after it warms up. Can't use the obd2 scanner cause my car is (should be) obd1.

Swapped in the bulb from the trunk indicator. Connected the jumper. Im getting code 19. Automatic transmission lock up valve? Too bad I have a manual tranny huh...
Does code 19 just repeat or are there other codes?
You obviously have the wrong ECU for your car. There may be a way to convert the auto ECU to a manual one with some soldering. You may want to PM moderator 94EG8.

It's a p28 ecu. To my knowledge it's never been swapped. I'm the 3rd owner here. The car was manufactured with this engine and this tranny, as per the VIN classification code. That is the only code, and.it does not repeat.
So code 19 blinks and then the CEL remains on steady? If so, you have two CEL codes, code 19 and code 0.
The "5" means automatic transmission. A "0" in that position means manual transmission.
That's abnormal ECU behavior. Unless code 0 is thrown, codes should repeat over and over again with the service connector jumped and the key in ON(II).
You clearly have ECU issues to deal with.
And the cel goes off after giving code 19

Oh sorry. The code does repeat. Guess I wasn't waiting long enough. So why does an auto tranny computer work fine in my manual tranny car? There's no evidence of it ever having an auto tranny and the chassis code indicates it has a manual tranny from the factory.
The original ECU likely died and a previous owner replaced it. Unfortunately, the original manual ECU was incorrectly replaced by an auto ECU. This may explain why the CEL bulb had been removed -- to mask this ECU error. PM 94EG8 and ask him how to convert the auto ECU into a manual one. Or create a thread.
Yes. But the auto ECU believes that your engine is coupled to an automatic transmission, thereby altering how the ECU tells the engine to behave (=not optimal when you have a manual transmission).
