Question about the muffler
I've recently cut the muffler off my car because whoever welded it on b4 i owned it didn't do a very good job and it was leaking. In turn it sounded like crap. I've had people tell me that it would mess up my valves not having a muffler and then i had people tell me that it really didnt need the muffler because of the resinator and cat give the back-pressure it needed.... your input in appreciated.
P.S. it sounds nice without the muffler....a good deep tone like an aftermarket exaust system.
and we dont have emission laws around here

also, at least in texas, the exhaust only has to exist past the cockpit, soo its legal to fumigate your tire/trunk
but it looks funny like that is a downside
plus side is you cant scrape a muffler that isnt there
FFS, why do people think cars "need" backpressure? How in God's name would it hurt your valves?
Your valves are fine. You could have zero backpressure and you would still be fine. The short answer is that if you want to gain power, you don't want ANY backpressure period. I'd explain it why but I've done that in too many threads in too many forums. Just google "cars need backpressure myth" and you'll get the same answer.
The reason people lose torque when they put on big diameter exhausts or get high flowing headers is because exhaust velocity has dropped. Exhaust velocity is what you have to watch out for and you have not run into that issue yet so you're fine.

it may burn up valves if you're running some serious overlap and/or long duration cam... and you get your timing wrong. i could see more backpressure reducing the risk in that instance. but so would being good at building and tuning motors
lol thanks guys for the insight...my thinkin was that it wasnt hurting anything...or else i wouldnt have took a hacksaw to it
