Nasty shudder in the steering column
Okay, here's the situation. I've got a problem with a strong shudder in the steering colum. I've had the wheels balanced and the alignment done, and double checked and it's perfectly fine. When I'm in second through fifth gear the steering column shudders/vibrates, and it sort of feels like wheels are wobbling, but a friend of mine followed beside me and said that the wheels don't seem to have any visible wobble. This only happens when I'm accelerating at usually it doesn't feel pronounced until around 3K RPM on up.
I can take first up to fuel cutoff and it doesn't happen at all, but as soon as I shift to second or higher gear and approach 3K RPM here it comes again. It doesn't happen when I'm at a stable speed, only accelerating, doesn't vibrate the slightest in neutral either.
A friend of mine said it might be a mount that's broken, but I checked the mounts, and from what I can see, they seem fine. I'm really in need of suggestions. Oh yeah, I had the axles rebuilt last year when I swapped the JDM H22A in it, because of problems with the company that delivered the engine. Anyhow, any insight and good advice is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an inner joint problem. Maybe one of the bearings is cracked? Sounds like you need to see a mechanic or take a closer look at some things.
Thanks, I was trying to get some sort of idea what could be wrong, so I could anticipate what type of $$$ I'm looking at spending. I'm hoping that's it...I was originally worried that it was going to be a transmission problem, but in talking to people it seems like that's what the problem is...thanks for the input. I'm getting it looked at tomorrow and hopefully it will be fixed by middle of the week. Thanks again
Check for play in the axles...I had my inner joint ripped for about a year and finally it was wearing out...I just replaced the driver's side driveshaft, it was so loose at the joint the whole thing ripped apart when we pulled it out.
Engine mounts can be damaged and not show any visible problems
