Default d15b1 non vtec im new

Hi I just joined the forums, Im no car guru but I have been studying on internal combustion engines for a few days now. I bought a book by Jason Siu called how to rebuild honda b-series engines. I bought two cars with my tax return a 95 corolla for my wife and a 90 hatch back civic "Base Lawn Mower model" You know the 70 hp d15b1 sohc efi... Anyways I took it to a mechanic because it has been bogging and getting horrible gas milegae like 240 a full tank.. He told me MY compression levels are way down #1 110 #2 105 #3 75 # 50 so I imagine my piston rings are bad and or head gasket.. Im not looking to rebuild for lack of tools and money and experience.. But I cant seem to find my Base model d15b1 70 hp 85 torque long block anywhere.. any suggestions from the experts?? I was planning on buying the long block and having a friend help with the swap and learning a little bit. The book is very informative and so are some of the threads Ive read im starting to understand the codic language. thanks for the help.

the d15b1 is the old motor for that car... i used to have one in mine till i blew it up...lol
but a d16a6 will drop right in or d15b2 or even the d15b7.. just one thing you want to do is convert your dpfi to mpfi which then youll get a lot more power out of the car and it would be an enjoyable ride.... but all d series motors drop in the ef civic.. its just the question if y ou want to go to obdo or obd1 engine system... d16z6 is obd1.... well worth converting the engine to that... but the obd0- is the d16a6 which keeps things simple.. just the the engine harness and compouter for it and drop her in.

If you are really straped for cash you can put another d15b1/2/6 or d16a6 and still keep your duel point fuel injection on any of those engines, if your trying to get mpgs and do the least work possible/least cash spent.

OK so d16a6 will drop right in without rewiring or buying a conversion kit. it will work with my obd0? and what is the average cost for one with average miles. mine has 104k on it right now which is why im surprised im having these problems. thanks

I was just trying to say that you can run a d16a6 and keep the dpfi if you dont want to spend money. But it's normaly run with mpfi and would require rewiring and dizzy/ ecu change but its up to you what you want to do with what your working with.
