Default 1996 Accord. Oil filled spark plugs - seals replaced

Originally starting off my mom had oil filled inside of her spark plugs as the spark plug wire boots had oil all on them. I replaced the valve cover gasket and the spark plug gaskets or whatever you call them on the underside of the valve cover. I clean the where the old gaskets were good and free from oil to help seal better, but the oil is still filling up into the spark plugs. What gives?

It is the lower spark plug tube seals.

Mine does the same thing

Are you talking about the 4 seals on the underside of the valve cover that come with the valve cover gasket kit? Those have been replaced.

I had 4 o-ring seals that I have no clue where they went. I still have them so where do those go?

Did you use the Honda gaskets? Or something from a parts store? Use the Honda ones. They fit. Those little rubber "O" rings were for sealing the valve cover bolt holes.

Used Fel-pro brand. I think the valve cover bolts aren't tight enough. I checked my car and the bolts aren't a lot tighter than my moms. I just don't have a torque wrench and I didn't want to tighten them too much since it's aluminum and would be easy to strip or crack. I'll just buy a torque wrench and torque it down and see what gives. I was told to use Hondabond on those seals also but I didn't use anything since factory, they have no sealant...

And I'm not talking about the valve cover bolt gaskets. They are 4 O-rings they are shaped in an O. You get the valve cover gasket, 4 spark plug tube seals, 4 valve cover bolt hole seals, then 4 O-ring seals that go where, I don't know.

Red lines above - Gourmet seals (valve cover bolt hole seals - used the new ones)
Blue lines above - o-rings. What the hell are these? Still have them
Purple lines above - spark plug tube seals - used the new ones

Now in the picture those are the o-rings I'm talking about.

You need to pull the rocker assembly off to replace those o-rings

Okay I found that out. Would I have to re-adjust the valves if I do this procedure?

You have to take the rocker arm assembly off, flip it over and thats where your o rings go. Its not much more work, just make sure you have a torque wrench, do it while the engine is cold and you put the rocker arm bolts back in the right order. outer to inner bolts when taking them out, and reverse that order when putting them back on works fine. Just be careful, take your time and should be fine.

Might as well do a valve adjustment while you have that open too.

Yeah I watched that video. My mom seen it too and now she doesn't want me to do it. She is afraid I'll mess it up so she is sending it to a shop. Oh well. I can do it on mine though.

All is good. I just put some RVT on the valve cover and spark plug seals as I was told NOT to in the first place. I didn't put any one it and it still leaked. I re did it and added RVT on the seals and now all is well. Perfectly fine.

You do NOT put any sealant on the tube seals when installing them. All you do is coat them in light oil.

Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV)

The red stuff from autozone on the valve cover gasket and the four spark plug gasket seals. Worked for me and it will work for you
