Default questions about hid retrofit 99 civic

just had a few questions...my current setup is h4 bi-xenon hid kit. looking to do my first retrofit, and the projectors use d2s bulbs. so just wondering...do i need to get a whole new kit, ballasts and all? or do i just need d2s bulbs? and also. i cant find a good diy kit that uses bi-xenon projector housings (yes, the projectors i am getting are bi-xenon). can someone link me to something i can find? i tried searching already. thanks any help is greatly appreciated

1.) All you need are D2S bulbs. The ballasts can be reused, but you'll need an AMP to D2S conversion harness.

2.) I have no idea what you're asking. What is a "DIY kit"?

It's normal for it to only use one headlight plug, that's how it gets the signals for hi/lo beams which are wired through that little box and then sent to the ballasts.

For the retrofit, yes you can use you ballasts with the AMP->D2S conversion harness.

Unless you're handy with wiring, it might be a good idea to purchase a new wiring harness. You need to take into account what projectors you are using for the harness. For example, a bi-xenon harness (e.g. FX-R) would be different than the harness for a low-beam only projector (e.g. TSX). I highly highly recommend theretrofitsource.com if you are really going to do this. I've dealt with the guys there several times, and they have excellent customer service. They can hook you up with projectors, bulbs, ballasts, harness, and shrouds for around $320 + shipping. Unless you got 'good name' ballasts, I'd recommend replacing them now, so you can save money by bundling them in a package.

Also, for an EK, you pretty much need bi-xenon unless you are going to drive only in the city.

Yeah I am pleased with the price. Sounds like these shouldn't be too hard to do...I think I'm going to go with the ddm kit...this will be my 4th kit from them I am pleases with their products. The kit will be the 55watt slim ballast.

What type of bulb does the EK Civic use? If it's an H4, the Mini D2S's are a good plug and play projector. I just helped a friend install them over the weekend. They have a really nice high beam and colorful cutoff.

Here's an example of the high beam. Much nicer than my Mini H1's.

well hopefully my taxes come back soon...with some of that money i will be ordering my ddm hids and i will get spiderlite led turn signal bulbs as well. ddm has some great pricing! oh and i thought about painting my stock reflective headlight part the same color as my rims...its a shade of green. i forget what its called lol but just wondering...should i primer the housings? or of i paint over the reflective part, will it be a reflective green?

I've experimented with painting the headlights many times to get the CTR gunmetal look, and the only way I've been able to successfully keep them shiny or reflective was by using tinting spray. If you could find some in green it might be your best option! I didn't primer it btw, I've tried priming and using chrome paint but it's quite difficult to get it to be shiny as I am no expert painter by any means.

Nice man... I wouldn't underestimate the difficulty of the install. I spent many hours on mine, biggest things I had in mind were the level of the cutoff and adjustability (up/down, right/left), and that can be tricky when custom-fabbing them in. As long as you fix them to the reflector you should be in good shape though!
