I need some ideas for my d16z6 rebuild or not?
I have a d16z6 motor with 240xxx miles on it should i just go ahead and rebuild the thing like what part do i need ??i was thinking about just replacing the motor head gasket water pump, timming belt or should i do more like replace the piston ring and rod also??
240,000 its tough to find where to start rebuilding it to be safe.. i would say replacing piston rings wouldn't be a bad idea but a better idea would be to get the cylinder honed, the rods really dont have to be replaced, maybe do a valve adjustment to make the car run smooth again.. and check hoses for wear and tear... cracks... etc. gl!
rod bearings, main bearings, all gaskets, rings, honed cylinders if they are still in good shape, if not then youll have to bore them and get new pistons. timing belt, water pump, and probably oil pump.
well the motor mile seem high since the motor is out i just wanted to replace thing so i dont have to take it out of my car again..what is cylinder honed? and if i get it honed do i got to get new piston?
getting your cylinders honed simply resurfaces it, I don't think it effects the diameter of the bore so I don't think you would need new pistons. I'm not 100% sure on that so you should probably look that up. If you get it bored then you DO need new pistons that will fit the new diameter of the bore. You should take it to the machine shops if you have the $$. And pretty much check anything rubber for wear and cracks. Honestly with the money you could make this motor near stock and factory specs again... you could add a little more cash to make it reliable + add to the performance

I had just rebuilt my d16z6 about a year ago, it had 180k miles of really hard driving, i thought i'd have to hone and replace the pistons but when we pulled it apart it had the factory hone marks still in the walls. So got the pistons inspected and reused them. New rings, rods, bearings, and oil pump plus gaskets and water pump. I also replaced the crankshaft cause the key had started to wear the end of the crank out and it had visible cracks around the slot on it. The top end was sent off to be inspected and it needed one of the valve springs replaced. These motors are tough, all i can say is have fun with that crank pulley bolt

Air tools will make your life so much easier when unbolting your axle nuts and crack pulley bolt. But for a single cam, I would just replace the timing belt, water pump, valve adjustment, dist. cap/rotor. Clean the IACV, throttle body. But I would highly recommend swapping a D16y8 instead, like a 2000 one with way lower miles and reuse your transmission.
But if you are planning to rebuild the motor. Remember to take off the tranny and clutch assembly before taking out crank pulley since you can use the crank tool to use as leverage.

o boy. why are you trying to rebuild a motor if you dont know what a hone is? just swap a b-series in if your single cam is getting tired. car will be worth more than if you spend the money on polishing a turd.
well i would go b but i got an extra free motor from my brother and its just taking up space in the garage so im just planing to somewhat rebuild it .after i save enough money im gonna go gsr maybe or lsv not sure yet i will see how much i can manage to get...oh yea another question im planing on using a 94 obd 1 integra throtlebody do i use the the ls mapsensor or the ex mapsensor
