Default first honda

I just bought my first Honda. Its a 97 civic ex. I was wanting some advice on what should b the first thing to do to add a little hp. I'm not trying to build it for the track or anything, it's my daily driver. I just want to make it a little quicker

Should have searched before posting this. This question gets asked at least once a week.

honestly everyone says that... a "little" faster. I think thats where everyone on this forum began until it turned into a full blown addiction I would say start with intake headers exhaust to add a little power... but definitely dont forget suspension and maybe even steel braided brake lines.. gl with your new addiction

And everyone has found out at the expense of their wallets that those bolt-ons do very little to NOTHING on a D-series. So maybe take someone's word for it when they advise you NOT to waste your time or money.

yeah, found this out from a week of crusing forums... if you have a d16, you have 2 options.... boost or full swap for DOHC

Both you guys basically have the best D-Series motors lol. This is a great platform for turbo. Also, it is a great platform for a b-series VTEC swap because your wire harness is already wired for VTEC! So u have an EX model civic right?
*welcome to Honda-Tech

the engine is from an ex, its sitting in my ek right now. im on a budget so i cant go running around looking for different engines but if my d16 cant pull, then i guess i have to switch. would boosting it be a good idea? and thanks, im soaking up lots of info from this website

every piece of suspension you can buy then go try auto-x you may find the y8 can be pretty peppy when you go round corners not just in a straight line

then go b after some seat time if your not happy

boosting is good. look into piecing together your own turbo kit and dont boost too much. the main thing is that you get it TUNED. and ur signature says u are 16? i TOTALLY understand your budget now lol. i was 16 when i got my civic. worked at a grocery store. now im in college and money is still tight. good luck.

It's singular, not plural.

And OP, don't waste your time with the D series. Junk it after doing some heavy reading in the FAQ section of the forum on how to properly perform a swap.

headers... its a habit

agreed, rather than blowing all your money here and there on parts for your D series it would be much better to save up your money and invest it in a B series. Much better platform, much more potential. Not that going D is a bad thing, check some build threads for B and D series and read up on the pros and cons of each

That's what I'm saying. I had all the "standard" bolt-ons. Just made my car louder. Mini-vans were still kicking my ***. Happened to get a big bonus at work one year and went turbo. Haven't looked back.

That's more h22 price there. Even gsr in the upper range.
Round here b18 full swaps run you from 400-800.

I would just start off by saving your money an either boost the single, or swap a b series or even boost a b.

at the minivan statement
