starter crisis

My starter took a dump on me. Upon speaking to the parts guy, he asked if my car is a california or 49 state car. I don't know. I deciphered the vin and there was no info. will either starter work?

Apparently, they are the same. They look different but fit. I got pissed, bought the part and tried it with success.

we dont...ca specific cars refer to our emission standards compared to all 49 other states therefore a non ca vehicle bought out of state would have to meet our tough standards...!!!
