Door Hard To Open

I have been trying for an hour now and i just cant get the rod that goes from the door handle to the door latch off. I want to adjust it but I can't remove it to adjust it. Please Help.

Besides, if the door is hard to open the striker is likely in need of adjustment, not the door handle rod.
