need some guidance on a full suspension kit for my civic
Hey guys,
as of now, my 90 civic dx 5-speed is completely stock. i have been doing some autox'ing with it and doing good for stock suspension and 13" wheels with huge sidewalls ;D , but i know the car has waaay more potential than what its showing right now. i want to focus on handling before i get into power mods so my questions are:
1. what full suspension kits can anyone recommend me to look at? I would like just a bolt on setup and i'm not looking to slam it to the ground, as my sole purpose is for function around the track, not looks.
2. are there kits i should stay away from?
3. this car is my driver, so if possible, are there kits that work well for daily use and as well on track days?
4. what price range am i looking at for a full kit on my civic?
thanks everyone for any info you can provide me!

+1 for koni struts w/ground control coilovers.
The quality and function of this setup is probably one of your best options for what you're looking to do. Tons of auto-x racers will swear by this setup, and it will also make a great DD.

koni yellow/gc combo is what everyone is running
the race is a modified yellow. meaning the shock is shorter and the valving is set to handle up to 1000lb/in springs.
2800 is there full on entry level coil over.
most autocrosser's run the race setup with custom spring rates.
Op do you know what class you want to run?
While there is a good reason to look at koni/gc's they might not be what you want depending your chosen class.

so i really dont know for sure yet...i would like to eventually make this car fairly competitive but dont expect to hang with the guys that spend 10k+ on brand new STIs and EVOs. the problem is right now, that this car is my daily driver and i dont have a ton of money to spend cause i'm currently building up my other cars for drag racing...so i guess i'll get into any class that will take my car with upgraded handling components (suspension, better wheels, strut brace, rear brace etc). i will save the engine modding for later. i'm just getting into this and want to ease into things.

Do you want to be competitive in autox or just have fun? If the former then you need to pay attention to the rules for mods allowed in various classes. If the latter, then feel free to mod to your heart's desire.
Koni/GC refers to standard off-the-shelf (OTS) Koni Sport adjustable shocks, mated with Ground Control's Koni Sport-specific sleeves with springs in rate and length of your choice. Click the link in my sig to see how they go together.
The Honda-Tech sponsor THMotorsports has them for a good price. You can send them a PM for details on the setup and pricing.

that's hard to say since you have a dx.
get the koni/gc's. a set of rims, and tires. then stop there. seat time, is your #1 asset.
if you have the money, and time, go to a national event, or a divisional. ask people questions, especially the ones driving civics.
thanks again guys! you are all a wealth of information for this honda noob
i was considering the koni sport setup since this will be a daily driver too. does anyone have experience with those for autox?

so its not too harsh for daily driving? what ground controls will i need? what spring rates will i want to look at for my application of regular driving and track days. where's the best place to buy those?
sorry for the bombardment of questions!
sorry for the bombardment of questions!
I currently have 350F/350R and the ride is very bearable for daily driving. I'm very anxious to go to 500lb in the front however. I doubt I'll see too much of a difference in daily driving comfort with 500lb springs in the front.
it's not to harsh. i have skunk2's on my koni's and they're rated at 560lbs. a little bit of a bounce, but not to bad. do have to watch out for bumps and pot holes, or you might lose a filling.
