Question about clocking RTA bearings

Default Question about clocking RTA bearings

Okay so here is my dilemma, if you want to call it that;

Im completely re-doing my suspension setup on my 1990 civic si. First thing is first, im doin a rear trailing arm swap to a DC setup for the rear disk. My question is this;

I will be replacing the stock trailing arm bushing to a hardrace spherical bearing. Ive read up on installing these but its always been people just replacing the stock bushing, not the whole trailing arm. So when they go to mark the bushing before removing it, its all gravy when installing the new one and clocking it. What i dont know is im completely changing to rear trailing arm from another car.

Can i mark/clock the stock bushing that is already in there even though its from an entirely different car?

Also is there a difference between spherical's and regular rubber in terms of clocking?

Any input is appreciated, thanks

check out wes V write up on his site (RIP) he talks how he clocks the stock one so there is less tension when the car is lowered.

You don't need to clock the PCi spherical because the inner rod that goes through the centre of the spherical is not bonded in any way to the outer of the bushing unlike OEM rubber. However I believe the newer version of the PCi sphericals are offset slightly to correct bump steer on lowered cars so you do have to make sure you put it in facing the right direction.

EDIT I just reread your post and notice you had Hardrace not PCi sphericals. Not sure if they are offset but I bet they don't need to be clocked in any case.

Yah im not too sure about sphericals and clocking and if its needed. I know PCI bearings dont because of what you just said.

Pci is a spherical bearing so clocking the bushing doesn't apply in your case.

you really dont know what a spherical bearing is, do you?

there is no need for "clocking" a spherical bearing. it will freely rotate into position. thats what it does...

both poly and bearings move. clocking is only needed on rubber because they are fixed and you don't want the bushing binding when the car is lowered
