Yet another cluster swap question...
Hello all,
I just bought a 1989 Civic DX hatchback about 3 weeks ago. By "bought", I actually mean "traded my downhill bike for". It was kind of odd, I had my bike posted on Craigslist and someone called me and asked if I wanted to trade for a car. I checked the car out and it was pretty solid. Not only that, but I was actually looking for a car. Must have been fate
So I have to say I really like this car. It has everything a car should have, and nothing a car doesn't need. I have had a 1g and a 2g integra in the past, along with a few other cars, but this is honestly my favorite so far.
I'd like to talk more about the car, and what I'm doing to it, but that's later. For now, I have a simple question:
I decided to upgrade to an Si cluster, and I found a 91 for cheap. I also got the bezel. I rewired the connectors to the cluster and set the correct mileage as per the instructions I found on this site. However, the issue is the rear defrost button and dimmer switch in the new bezel. Actually, the defrost button was easy, just had to extend the 5 wires to the other side. However none of the dimmer wires match. I tried plugging it in because the connector is the same, but it popped the fuse. So I need to de-pin and re-pin it the correct way. Any ideas what order the wires go?
My 89's wire colours are:
Red/Black
Red
Black
the 91's are:
Red/White
Red/Blue
Red/Green
So which matches up with which?
Many thanks in advance...

Thanks for posting that...after literally hours of scouring this forum and others, I have found that it has nothing to do with the pin locations. The 89 dimmer has a bunch of resistors inside of it and the 91 does not...so it will pop the fuse every time, regardless of pin location.
I also found a solution, someone pointed out that you can just install the dimmer into one of the lower option spots beneath the bezel. fit like a charm. I now have 2 dimmers and 2 hazard light switches....1 of each work. Thanks anyway!
