Default 02 ex ecu code

Check engine light came on 2 days ago, and when I start the car it runs a little rough while idling for about 10 seconds, and when I give it gas it kind of sputters and then it goes away... Can I retrieve the code myself or do I need to have it read with a obd2 code reader. I noticed that the cel light flashes when I turn the car on at first, it flashed 8 or 9 short flahes , so according to old school methods this would be a code 8 or 9, does this apply to obd2 or not?

If you can drive it, take it to a local auto parts store and have it scanned. Many places will do it free of charge.

I have heard of pulling DTC's by jumping a couple of the OBD connector terminals, but haven't tried it myself so I cannot verify that this method works.

that method works for obd1, have done it many times, however I wasnt sure obd2 would even have that particular connector that obd1 had. Anyhow, sometimes when I turn the car on the cel flashes the code like i said 8 short flashes, but ill take it to a place to get it read since you get a more in depth answer from the code readers

Any of the following sites have DIY instructions for retrieving the code without a scan tool:
