Is Installing a Lower Ball Joint difficult?
depends on your mechanical ability
im too lazy to go out and look at the civic to see how the ball joint is attached
what kind of repairs have you done?
I have replaced a diff on a different car, I say i can handle a ball joint job.
I need to replace the half shelves on the civic soon too

its easy, you can replace the balljoint, remove spindle. They should be pressed in but once I took my spindle to get my balljoint removed and new one pressed in to the army post craft shop and the machinist on duty took a big hammer and banged the old one out and using a brass rod banged the new one in-- he said he has done it this way for many years (old guy) everything was fine. I have done mine (going on 6-7 of em)like this since then. A couple of things you have to look for: make sure there is no snap ring underneath(just above the rubber boot) that holds it (the balljoint)in place and be sure to remove the "dust" ring that is around the wheel bearing(pry it out-some have em some don't) prep the area (clean real well) where the ball joint goes before installing the new one
^ I just looked at mine and said screw it when I replaced my LCA. It isn't really bad at all, boot was torn when I took it off, minimal play and I was really short on time so I just replaced the boot and called it a day. I'll try this hammer wacking technique when I have some more free time.
came across this thread and wanted to add my 2 cents.
yes, if your car gets shaky it could be due to lower ball joint issues.
Installing a lower ball joint is a moderately difficult procedure. according to this site called lower ball joint, it should be a quite doable thing but definitely takes some skill and expertise. A lot can depend on your car and if in doubt, consult an expert, of course.
hope that helps! and best of luck

I borrowed tools from Autozone. They have the standard ball joint press set but make sure you also get the supplemental kit for Hondas. I was able to press out and in a new ball joint with the lower control arm mounted on the car. Get the ball joint from the dealer, I had a problem with the aftermarket junk.
you need common sense and a big hammer.
pop the balljoint out and then take the oring thing out and hammer it out. then hammer the other one in.
but dont do exaclty what i said hammering it in will damage it unless you have a soft hammer or what i use is a socket
if you have to ask how to do it then dont do it. its basic stuff that shouldnt require any know how to any mechanic
