Default Gr-2 Kyb Shocks on Ef

Okay i have some questions looking for some new shocks but is on a real low budget due to school and ****. so i been thinking about getting these Gr-2 Kyb shocks. Honestly i never heard of them. so i dont know how they ride. If i get these i will be putting a set of coil overs on them. so how will this make my car ride? willl it be worth the money? Thanks.

Not sure how they ride on a lowered car, but they are pretty much stock replacements. Some people have said not to put them on a lowered car because they will not handle it, but some people said they used them and they where fine.

I'm in the process of lowering my car with them on it, but I'm going to extend the top hat(top shock mount) to keep the ride smooth and hopefully extend the life of the shocks.

I had them on my lowered 00 Accord coupe... It was on springs (H&R's) not coilovers... rode fine and they were a couple years old. The car was not dumped but they are like stocks... I had a set on my OG 86 Accord back in 1998 and they sucked! I had them on some Sprint springs.. Bounced around awful! My old stock ones rode better than the GR-2's. Called KYB and they said they don't warranty them on a lowered cars or recommend them. Obviously... KYB has been around for a long time and so have the GR-2 shocks... Anyone who has been in the Honda game for more than 10 years is VERY familiar as this used to be one of the only replacement shocks that were considered to be better than stock.... that is yet to be determined eeeeons later!

Thanks guys on your input! i think imma get them cos of the budget im at. But i think imma rise the car with the coil over. i been reading the shocks dont do well when the car is slam. so i mostly likely wont slam my car or keep it at the height it is right now.

kyb's are a step up to the crap that came on your car, i was thinking about buying a set but i wanna get this motor swap thing figured out first. found one oretty cheap.

they are better than what the stock replacement at autozone or advanced auto is going to have. slammed i couldnt tell you, but i can tell you ive got stock ones slammed with some lil bluies & ive popped more tires than boners in the last year. talk about 10k miles on a set of NEW tires, 1k-2500 miles on a GOOD used tire. my **** isnt all rusted and bent, iv got original paint.i jacked the car up let the struts relax, snigged up the coilovers just to preload ( not even really preload just to the point where they held them,,, another 1/4 turn would have been compressing them. .. i took the sponge out i guess you could say.) lowered the car, then set the coilovrs to level, took a couple runs made a few tweeks, lowered the car back down about 3-4 inches in the back and 2-2.5 in the front (DONT ASK) im sure someone could argue this but my car sits less than 6 inches off the ground (at the lowest point) it rides much better that it used to on fully dropped setting, i would reccomend getting better fronts if you plan on going really low, its a front wheel drive car that hops in the back and youre triny to driv e it down the road, lil bumps with that setup are a disaster. I wouldnt dare take a speedbump at anything over 3mph.

KYB gr2s are an oem style replacement.

A poor one at that.

If you are planning any suspension mods I would advise from theses shocks. IMHO as both someone who's played with hondas for a while and a suspension geek. I'd say the "worst" shock I'd put on these cars for modding is the toikio "whites". Not that they are a bad shock at all. I think highly of them. It's just anything less is going to be a headache/let down /worse/dangerous.

If you are looking for an oem style shock, honda or IIRC bilstien does still offer them for these cars.

just go with tokiko blues, never gave me any problems and theyre way better than any of the other OEM replacements.

I have the gr2s on my 91 hatch. Got them @ the junkyard for $6 each. There still stiff after 3months i use coilovers on them but not slammed cause i know they will blow for sure! but all in all its a comfortable kinda stiff ride not the best to be drag racing n stuff tho. I just got them cause i needed some asap. I had blown stocks.
