Parts needed for Valve seals, Head gasket
So my 1988 Honda CRX is burning oil and I'm going to do my own repairs.
Here is my parts list;
Valve cover gasket
Head Gasket (it's pretty old)
Timing belt
How much should valve stem seals cost? Here is a kit for $130
link
Here is another for $30
http://www.amazon.com/Fel-Pro-SS7028.../dp/B000C2AM36
Does anyone know if these Felpro's have colored springs to tell if they are exhaust/intakes?
Do I need keepers and springs too? Or just the seals?
Please add any suggestions

I would just go OEM online.
Hopefully you'll have guide clearances checked otherwise all the work is for nothing.
Hopefully your problem is with the valve stem seals and not the rings....it's not an easy task to figure out which is the culprit.....neither compression test nor leakdown test will tell you... how did you determine the problem was in the head?

Well a couple of days ago smoke was coming out of the tail pipe during/after acceleration, it was white and smelt sweet (coolant) so that's why I thought it was the head gasket.
Today a mechanic checked it out. I turned it on and it started to make a foul smelling smoke (still white) that obviously smelled like oil, and he said it was the valve seals... He charges $700 to fix it (inc. a new timing belt).
FUUUUUUUUUUU
I might just buy a whole new engine and have it installed for that price..

for 700...i would swap in an ls engine from 90-93 integra or buy a newer single cam motor....check craiglist in your area...or do the work yourself and spend 200 tops on parts and tools...
I picked up a lower mileage D16Y7 for 200 bux Canadian instead of yanking my A6 and rebuliding the whole thing (POS was losing oil like the Exxon Valdez). Obviously this won't really make you faster but will get you by while you save up for something better.
