Default Shifter moves side to side when in gear..help!

When the car is in any gear it moves side to side like crazy. Almost feels like neutral. But all gears work just really sloppy. Im assuming bushings but which ones ? Not too familiar with hondas

http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...a+del+Sol+1993

I assume its for a 93 del Sol?

Pick your engine, and order it.. all you need is 2 wrenches, a jack, and stands, (creeper helps) and it took me like 15 mins once it was in the air.

Instructions come with, and are on the info page there.

Good luck!

Yeah lol. I ordered the full kit for my Dads, but since he's waiting on an engine rebuild, I may use the REST of it on MY Sol!! lol

hey guys my energy suspension bushings finally showed up but I went to go install it and they sent me the wrong ones i guess. He said they are different for sohc vtec and non vtec. Anyways I was lookin under the car and the bushings they sell is for the stabilizer only. I can wiggle the rod for the shifter side to side even when in gear. I guess they dont sell anything for the shifter linkage only for the stabilizer. anything else what could cause such a play in the shifter ? is it possible that the shifter ball wore out ? thanks

It's the bushings for sure. Just take some extra rubber or something and rig it in there and see if it stops. Then buy the actual bushings if it works.

pretty sure they do..

you should have gotten two things of rubber. one that goes in between the shifter bolts and the frame. the other is a donut looking one that goes on the end of the bar that attches to the bottom of the tranny.

Sometimes the linkage will loosen at the rivet for the knuckle. I have drilled them out and used a bolt to hold them tighter. Your issue sounds a bit more like a bushing issue though. Get the right bushings and see if that works.

do you have the bitch pin in? or is it just a bolt and nut..... cause that will cause real bad slop in the shifter

9 out of 10 times, it's just worn shifter bushings. $16 for the pair, and pop them on. Here's a shot of the pair i put on my linkage last summer

ES Bushings. Basically nectar of the shifting Gods. The car mounted bushing will make you want to cry though. Might cut yourself a few times too, haha.

yes this requires what i believe is called a gator pin....but in the honda world its the bitch pin.... if you dont use a gator pin it will have freeplay where it should not hence the slop

Return the bushings. ^^^ You just solved your own problem. Replace that ghetto bolt/nut with the proper "gator" pin.

Why should he return them? They're only under $20 and they'll stiffen his stuff up anyways.

I had the same symptoms loose shifter, I had fresh poly bushings and an OEM roll pin/bitch pin turns out, with the help of a buddy moving the shifter while in gear I saw the problem.
The bearings/bushings of the shifter linkage right where it hooks up to the trans were blown out. I had to get new linkage sadly.

Okays...keep them and get the gator pin. It is #30 on the diagram above. ^^^^^

When people ghetto rig the pin with a bolt and nut, it will cause the shifter to have a lot of play (left and right movement).

My EJ8 it was the Lower shifter bushings that cause my really bad freeplay. parts number 12 and 26. Well it was so bad that I didn't even have a 26.
