Default is this worth it? new to site please help

like the title says im new too the site and the honda game really but ive been around cars for a few years and am an automotive major student. Since alot of you guys have been around for a while i just wanted to get some second oppinions on some cars im looking at.

http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2212781503.html

i talked to the kid and he seems like he has really taken care of this car, it has approx. 50k on a b18a1 needs new mounts because they are the stock ones from what he told me as well as it needs a new idle control valve and possibly new tires.

let me know what you think, ill also be posting more to get oppinions before i make any final decisions to go check out cars

also if any of you know of any integras in the southern cali area that may be worth checking into please let me know. im trying to keep my budget under 2800 if i can..

thank you in advance. and sorry mods if this is the wrong section.

He says nothing about the interior, that would worry me lol
all the stuff it needs is going to be time consuming and $$$ if you dont know jack about cars lol
also, ask if he has documentation of the new engine and such, receipts, mileage when installed stuff like that.
I'd honestly offer him 1800 for it, and let him keep the subs lol

*edit*
Nvm found the little teeny tiny sentence about the interior lol

actually i talked to him for a good couple hours last night, hes a very friendly guy and truely loved this car and doesnt want to let it go. but since he does he wants it to go to a good home that wont beat the **** out of it.

the motor rebuild was a big part of what we talked about, I guess what happend was his step dad had fully rebuilt a b18a1 for some guy and he never came and paid for the motor so he bought it off of him and tossed it into his car during the restoration. he doesnt have the paper work but i can talk to his step dad about the rebuild. According to the owner (brock) the rebuild was put in less then 50k ago with brand new EVERYTHING with it. no leaks what so every, the entire engine is completely stock (i have seen all the pictures on facebook of him putting it in and the after math) the only thing that it needs is new motor mounts soon and to have the idle air valve cleaned out because of a slight irregular idle. and a new ac system (just because i live in the desert)

as for the body its completely straight and clean except for a small little dent on the front driver fender due to trying to teach his lady how to drive a stick in his yard.. females.. but it an easy fix. he is going to send me pictures of the interior when he gets back from the dmv from getting a replacement pink slip

as for 1800, he was originally asking 3 but dropped it to 2400. im going to go look at it and check compression and what not and take my offer from there.

Im deffinatly no master tech but ive been around cars for a few years and am going to school to become a tech so i know a thing or two. just kinda wanting a second oppinion from people that know hondas since not many of my friends are mechanically inclined.

with a budget of 2800 you can do better. this gsr supposedly has 83k orig miles, clean title...and only needs a paint job. MINOR!

If it is "clean" NO RUST and engine checks out, [compression is good and even] then$2400 is not too bad, I would wave $2200 under his nose and see if he bites, have another $149.95 in you wallet ant tell him it is all you have. 94

but personally, i would wait for something better. rule of thumb is never buy a first year of production car. and as stated, for 24, you can do a lot better. won't even go into how much i got my rust free da for, as i'm sure, as always, people will chime in with how much they paid for this or that

Yea 2400 is a lil steep im about to sell my 90 da and it is in perfect condition with new paint and new tires and im not even going to try and get 2400 for it. I would keep looking around or try to get him to come down on that price a bit.

i actually called this guy earlier, car was originally a marines and was stored in his moms garage for 4-5 years. they dug it out and it started right up BUT the car has been non-opd for about that long and he doesnt really know much more about it then that.. he said he never raced it but he kinda seems like it may have been raced.. i will probably go take a look at it but i dont know if ill be able to afford the registration if its incredibly high, as well as insurance and smog. plus the car would have to be towed back and idk if i can get a truck.

i was going to be running a car fax, as well as a complete inspection and of most deffinatly a compression check and possibly a vacuum test, possibly a full computer scan if my friend will let me barrow her computer. im almost positive i can get him down on his price some because he wants it to go to a good home since it was his baby. but i have to spend this loan money smart. If the Gsr tranny and motor really are rebuilt like he said then it seems like about 2-2150 would be a fair price unless he smogs it and makes sure the 12 tags are up to date then i may offer 2250..

I like da's and it seems to be in great condition according to the pics and what not but i really want a dc to actually start slowly building.. ill go check it out after i find out whats up with the registration and see whats up but im deffinatly still trying to find a cleanish 94+

thank you all for the feedback. and please if you find some deals besides craigslist let me know!

He replaced the engine but not the original motor mounts...?
that's odd. I mean, since he's obviously replaced everything else, why not those too?

I'm pretty sure it was raced here or there, cause do you know how hard it is to drive around in an integra and not have someone try to race you? lol

My dad borrowed my car one day cause we were short a car that day for some reason, and he came home all pissed, asked him what was wrong, and he said, "never have i been in a car that has so many people trying to race me." he was pissed lol

and google is always your friend when it comes to engine specs lol

from what he said they are still good but they are starting to get to the replacing point. im sure every car has been raced somewhat every now and then unless it was owned by an old lady lol.

i have all the specs im just new to the displacements and all that with motors, ive mainly only done standard swaps, body work, some electrical, and small things on motors. i know the compression ratio is 9:2:1 but im not quite sure exactly what that means and what the compression should total up to on the gauge. im guessing around 170ish for a good motor? if anyone can explain i would greatly appreciated

i went and checked out the car, motor deffinatly checked out. all 4 cylinders read 210 on the compression. fired right up ran great besides the idle air control valve needing a cleaning. had skunk 2 coils and camber kit in front and just the skunk2 coils in back. body was amazingly straight besides a small dent and desperatly needs a paint job. the clutch has deffinatly been replaced recently and is very sensitive. rims are in ok shape and same with tires. interior is clean besides needing a good cleaning and the front seats are kinda worn for being 21.

but it needs motor and trans mount asap, a new battery, idle air cleaned and hopefully not replaced. but i got him to 1900 so thats good..
