LS/ Vtech Running too cool ?
Hello everone. I am new to Honda-tech, but not new to the Honda scene. I just recently acquired a 1998 Civic DX with an LS/Vtech. B18b1 Block w/ GSR head and an LS. I have never really been a do it yourself wrench, but however I always did my own electrical, little bolt ons and paint. I always paid a shop to dial in my previous MKIV supra and EG when I had them. The car is great, no pwr steering of course, but it does have A/C which is a must here in so. CA. My concern is that the car has a very nice koyo aluminum radiator, but the motor hovers at cold all the time. Sometimes it will run just above cold so I know the thermostat is functional, but is alright for this motor to be running so cold? I drive 74 miles a day and the temp is always consisten, no real flux. It has an AEM intake, not cold air. The things is great, but just concerened with the temp. Im also wondering if this will have issues with my vtech kicking in later than a warmer vehicle. Is this a bad thing? im not to sure. Any insight is appreciated.
hmmm sounds interesting....i experience the same thing with my b16a sir1 motor. The thermostat is functional but after driving the valve cover is almost cool to the touch(not the header though...lol ouch!) I dont think you should worry about it effecting your vtec crossover as I have never had a problem with oil pressure not allowing vtec to hit when the motor was "warmed up" but still cool to the touch. Be weary though, if you notice vtec did not crossover, dont rev the **** out of it. It tripped me out at first but since ive never had a problem, the worry went away.
Hey thanks for the quick response I appreciate it. Vtech hits fine, most of the b series vtech will kick in just a touch later when its running on the cold side and thats what it seems like. Maybe this summer she will run perfect im thinking, but its def. a relief to know it wont effect it negatively because I often feel like im running around in un warmed car and do not want any problems with this LS. I hear they can be a pain in the ***, but this one seems to have been done extremely well. I lucked out. Thanks AGAIN!

You more than likely see it frequently spelled vtech because on just about every 10 inches of space on this website your constantly seeing the words honda-tech so that could be the subconscious reason while people frequently ruin the word. But hey TaffetaEJ6 I appreciate you not being a complete *** by correcting something so small. Hey Mouab why dont you be a real over zelous *** and just correct everyone by typing no its not vtec thats an accronym its Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control. Dick
What an excellent response. I would expect such a response from someone in grade school, but from someone who has a learners permit and there mom thinks they are responsable enough to drive her commuter around and hit message boards about it, I expected better from someone of your caliber. LMAO. Does she know about the dryer hose you clamped a filter to make a cold air intake on her car? tisk tisk.
to get back to the original question. your thermostat is either stuck open or too low of a temperature. put in an oem honda thermostat and bleed the system.
