Default newb help

I checked my oil yesterday, and it was black as hell.... Then I saw that the oil was very low... Today in the morning, I saw that there was a small oil spill on the floor...

I don't know crap about cars, but what can you guys tell me?

well u could start off by getting ur oil changed and possibly trying to wipe everything down so u can possibly see where its comin from. theres many places where it could be comin from. but most of them are mostly normal especially if u have alot of miles on it

1. vtec kills oil on high mileage engines
2. change oil and thoroughly clean everywhere
3. drive for a little while and check for leaks
try it and see if this narrows it down

It's got 150k, 95, non vtec, h23a1.. Ummm, I guess what I was asking was, what can cause the oil spill? the oil filter? Like I said, I don't really know crap about cars....

I just don't want to drive it, if it's gonna mess up my whole engine..

"well u could start off by getting ur oil changed and possibly trying to wipe everything down so u can possibly see where its comin from. theres many places where it could be comin from."

Will try this.

"2. change oil and thoroughly clean everywhere

"

Now, if I do find out what's the problem, what's the most I will be spending on the whole thing to repair it? Moneys real tight, as I am currently unemployed, and I don't want to be spending loads of money.

^ Re: $ to repair, can't really say, it all depends where the leak is, you will need to
find that out first.

low side, $.20 for a plastic washer for your oil drain plug, high side...motor replacement.

well as long as u keep ur oil full you will be fine. the oil filter is possible. as well as the gasket on the drain plug which are only a couple bucks. i have the same motor in mine. ive got 255k and mine leaks but not too bad. oil pan gaskets are common to leak. but shops usually charge a good bit to change them, so if u have any friends that can do it right that would be the cheapest way.

Also check the rear cam seal, its on the back left corner near the top of the engine. This is a notorious place for DOHC hondas to leak. Replace with a billet cam seal or HondaBond that dude if its leaking.

I took it to my friend, and we cleaned up the whole car, and checked where it was leaking from, it was there.... He had put something to seal it up... Thanks for the help everyone.

Black oil is very dirty oil; it will take a few frequent oil changes to clean it up.

So did you figure out exactly where the leak was coming from?
