clutch or tranny? :(
whats up guys (and maybe gals) lol
so heres the issue, i have a 91 ef hatch with a b20b swap and a cable tranny in there and a few days ago i was stuckin traffic and as i tryed to shift into first it wouldnt budge. if the car is on none of the gears will go in at all. they dont gring but they just dont go in. (only reverse grinds) and while the car is off the gears go in perfectly!! im unsure if it has to do with any tranny problems or if just my clutch went out. i hope you guys can help me out thanks

Sounds like it might be the clutch. The syncro on the gears have a blocker built in that prevent you from shifting until the input and output shafts have been matched in speed. Since the engine is running and the car isnt moving, this is impossible therefore the syncro won't let any gears go in. And since reverse doesn't have syncro you can actually try to get it in which is why it grinds.
Oh and avoid trying to get it into gear like this, as you will wear out the synchros fast.

and while figuring out what the problem was that same day, there was the sound of a sping comming loose or popping off somewhere in the tranny. im guessing the same thing as the pictures. thanks again
