Putting on a rear sway bar onto a 99 Civic coupe, what do I need?
I'm trying to figure out what exactly do I need to put on a rear sway bar onto a 99 Civic coupe that didn't come with one from factory.
I know I'll need the factory bracket and bolts, but are there any vendors that sell these as a package online?
Does anyone know if I can use my stock rear lower control arms? Ive seen pics online where the stock ones seem to have a hole for the endlink, but I'm not sure if it's tapped and/or if it's big enough for a end link bolt to go through.
Also, any recommendations on a quality end link?
I don't want to upgrade my rear LCAs because I want to keep it stock looking. Just trying to make the car fun without getting it stolen lol. I'm planning to get a 17MM Eibach rear sway bar, which I'll be painting black. I'm also planning to get Progress CS-II coilovers.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can use your factory lower control arms. I recomend you do, unless you are are going with a Function7, others are junk.
You could use a ASR brace, which would be a wise choice. Not 100% needed, but a lot of people would say to go ahead and get it.
If not, you'll want to get the bracket that goes from the d bracket and bolts to the subframe. The D bracket bolts to that.
I used 10mm bolts, which required the holes on the bracket to be enlarged a bit. And 4 lock nuts.
For endlinks, I am not positve that you can use a OEM endlink, But blox,ASR, and Function7 make good adjustable endlinks.
I have the blox currently, but I will likely be going with the Function7 ones soon.
Does the Eibach sway bar come with D brackets and bushings?

Not sure about the vendors. I know that EX Civics have the right LCA's. You might consider subframe reinforcement if you plan on drving the car hard.
I have to check under my car tomorrow, but from judging from pics I saw online, it looks like the factory lower control arms do have a hole. From what I read, only the EX sedan and Si came with a factory rear sway bar.
I PMed the seller trying to see if it comes with endlinks or not. He says it comes with the U bracket and the bushing.
I don't want to get the ASR bracket because I live in NYC and the Honda theft activity is crazy here. I'm trying to keep it sleeper. This car is my daily driver, but the roads here are pretty horrible with potholes and whatnot.

Looks like I'll need two of #30, and then 8 of #36 bolts; two for the bracket to the subframe and then from the U bracket to the subframe bracket? You think that's correct? This diagram is for a 99 Civic Si.

ALL 96-00 have the holes in the lower control arms.
Do you not have a rear sway bar on it now? 99-00 SI's came with rear bars factory.
Sence it is a SI, yes, you have it right for the brackets and the bolts.
Where did you rear the Ex's came with rear sway bars? There is another thread in which we were discussing that. Have not been able to find anything that says they had them or not.

I looked at the link again and I realized the guy was talking about EG EX sedan having a rear sway bar.
I have a EX coupe. I looked up the diagram for a Si to look at the factory rear sway bar parts. I just want to make sure I have everything correct before I start clicking buttons and regretting purchases later lol.

OHHH, well in that case you will only be abel use 4 of the #36 bolts
The reason why, is the normal civic subframe's holes are larger. I used a 10mm bolt(the threaded part is 10mm), made the hole in the #30's a little larger and bolted it right on.
I can post pic's of what I did, if you'd like.
To above, you should not need new rear lca's, just front.

Won't I need 4 for each side? Two to hold the bracket to the subframe and then another 2 to hold the "U" mount to the bracket? Thanks for the help btw.
I tried searching the forums, but didn't come up with anything solid. There has to be a thread that lists exactly what parts you need to install a rear sway bar. I saw one, but that was for installing the ASR brace.

I meant 8 bolts in total, not 8 of the "#36" Honda bolts. Pic taken from here http://importnut.net/swaybar.htm I wish this guy had a parts list though.
I wish I could get an exact spec on the bolts that fit into the stock subframe AND the honda brackets. I don't want to have to get the brackets drilled. What was the exact specs of the bolts you got? Thread pitch and length?

This is exactly what I need. http://www.shopatron.com/products/pr....312HKR/3269.0 $271.43 they're crazy.
Ok, yea that is a expensive. OEM endlinks run about 50 each though.
Becuase you have a SI you can run all OEM bracket/bolts.
That pic is how I have mine in.
Length/pitch don't matter to much on the bolts going into the subframe for me. It will for you. Just need to get nuts to match.
You can use ALL OEM bolts, where as I can only use 4.

Wait I have a 99 EX coupe, NOT a Si. Sorry for any confusion, but I thought we cleared that up in post #6.
Thanks for your help btw.

Damnit! Sorry, I rear it wrong.
Here's what I did. All Oem brackets. D bracket, bolted to #30 with Oem bolts. (#36)
4 grade 8 bolts/luck nuts. Thread pitch doesn't matter, as long as you have matching luck nuts. Threaded part was 10mm.
This does mean the #30's holes will need to be enlarged to fit. OEM bolts as aprox 8mm. For us, the holes in the subframe are appoxemently 11mm.
Im going to take a look at the eibach parts, and compare the cost to honda. My guess is it won't be to bad.

Funny, I'm just about to install my EK4 15mm (same as USDM SI 13mm but then in 15mm) also now winter is comming to an end, to experience the diff when I later in spring mount the ASR/22mm.
Check here for a How-To and an OE parts list (13mm SI bar), also check here.
You should use some backing plate to the rear of the subframe, a DIY or a ASR backing plate (as I will since I allready have the ASR brace).

SEARCH!!
We are not going to spoon feed you everything. You need to help your self by searching first. Then, If you are still having trouble make a thread.
This information has been covered before. The information is there, I found it while I was doing my sway bars, and was unsure.
Don't thread jack.
^ Thanks for your help in this thread.
kristo, thank you very much for that link. That was exactly what I needed. I didn't realize that there was a #35 on that parts diagram. The bolts seem cheap enough to get through an online Honda parts retailer than trying to match stuff up at Home Depot.

^ Yea and I'm guessing #36 is the bolt for the bracket to the subframe. I rather find some nuts for it, rather than having to make the holes larger.

That Eibach hardware kit is a subframe tearout waiting to happen. Those brackets that space the bar out away from the subframe look exactly like the ones used on 94-01 Integra OEM 13mm rear sway bars. They're okay for smaller bars, but for bigger ones, those brackets become torque arms and rip the subframe sheet metal apart.
For anything larger than an OEM 13 or 15mm rear bar, a large, solid brace like ASR is pretty much required for 96-00 Civics due to the thin subframe sheet metal.
