Default koni/ground control questions

I just installed my koni/gc setup, questions I have...

From the base of the shaft on strut I have white plastic c clip, bump stop, up to the metal washer above the hump mid way up shaft, then the isolator and strut hood. Is this right?

And I have them installed and I can loosen the collar to "lower" and the spring will flop around. Is this normal? If so what keeps the springs from possibly not seating correctly in the isolator/strut hat?

Posting a pic might help, but that sounds right.

Yes, normal. Just check to verify that they seat corectly when the car is lowered off of a jack.

Nothing keeps the springs from unseating, except gravity and the weight of the car, which is adequate if you aren't impersonating the General Lee.

LOL @ impersonating the General Lee.

So what is the best way to make sure the springs don't get seated wrong when I lower the car down?

Shake the car side to side if one side seems a bit high, and it should seat itself.

Really, it isn't an issue to worry about, and will be very obvious if it doesn't seat correctly.

I've changed wheels twice a month for years (before and after an auto-x) and never had the spring fail to seat correctly when just dropping the car off the jack. If you have swaybars and only jack one side up at a time they will never unseat either, only if you lift an entire axle.

See the very thin spring stacked with the main spring?

Helper springs are used to take up the extra slack. A helper spring is fully collapsed once the car is lowered onto its suspension, and has a very very low rate.

See link in sig, it shows the correct order of hardware. And ditto on the springs, I used to have Koni/GC and never had a problem with the springs not seating correctly. The only time it *could* come unseated is if a tire leaves the ground - which would only happen if you're doing "sweet jumps" or if one wheel lifts off the ground in cornering, which is not very likely to happen.
